i don't like what diss tracks have become tbqh. at least back in the day they could be somewhat lighthearted (see the q-tip/mc hammer feud). nowadays a diss track is just an excuse to act like a total asshole and people go "WHOA AMAZING DISS."

i don't know, personally i just don't see the appeal in a guy being a total douchebag. it's just not for me. it reminds me of people back in the day going "SESS IS SUCH AN AMAZING TROLL" when all he did was throw insults around about people being ugly or virgins or whatever. personally i was always more into the creative trolling of shake or horatio or makeyourchance (for the old people reading this who still remember those users).

though i guess this isn't completely the same as that, since you can still appreciate things about pusha t's rapping like his technical ability or wordplay or whatever. if people are saying they like that but still recognize he's being an asshole that's fair, sure.

Pusha's diss track is incredible. Buzzfeed already ran a story saying Pusha went too far which is hilarious considering the day before they ran a story about how amazing and woke Drake's diss track was. Really highlights just how disconnected from reality that site is.

well, before that there were probably more lighthearted diss tracks in hip hop too. i doubt rappers were constantly shooting each other until '90, there was a period of lightheartedness in '91-'94, and then they got back to shooting each other again for the late '90s. just can't remember any '80s diss tracks off the top of my head, but i'm sure they exist.

No Vaseline is probably the most famous diss track of all time (aside from Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture), and that came out in 1991.
