I mean, this certainly could be the case, but it doesn't change the main point of the article. Those who have the least experience with illegal immigrants hold the most prejudiced views of them. If illegal immigrants really were prone to high violence, then you'd certainly expect the opposite. What seems to be correlating with viewpoints on criminality is lack of experience with them, suggesting a viewpoint that isn't driven by experience/information.

Yeah this, which is why more diverse the area is the more likely you are going to find people in favor of a more liberal view point when it comes to immigration vs living in a less diverse area that will be more conservative.
