What should I know before I start?

I know Geno is boss and there is some weird optional boss that is tough named Culex or something?

That's about it.

Can I have Luigi in my party?

the game's pretty good with tutorials as you go. The battle system is turn based, but well-timed button presses will make your attacks, abilities (even defensive ones), and defense higher.

When you level up, you can choose how stats are allocated. Going for an even spread is the best net gain but the preview window will guide you there.

MP is shared. Using a flower that raises party MP will also heal it up to full, so momentary delay to use is suggested.

Invisible chests exist but spamming every square in a room is terrible. Either use a guide or don't bother.

Also note that there is a reward (though not an exceptional one) for finding them all, and one (and only one) is missable, and it's located right near the start of the game.

A big Guide Dang It about this game is that there are a lot of accessories and armors that have extremely powerful effects which are not displayed or explained in-game in any way, shape, or form. They're mostly stat or damage multipliers and status immunities. Since inventory space is incredibly limited, it's easy to accidentally give up an accessory that appears to do literally nothing or next-to-nothing but is actually god tier.

Pick-Me-Ups are broken and will carry you through any fight, should you play the unmodified game. They cost basically nothing and revive with full HP, and (like most items) you can action command them to get an increased chance of them not being consumed on use. Red Essences are very nice for the final boss, though.

Save your Frog Coins for Seaside Town; don't spend them on consumables at the pond.

Geno is great for Geno Boost (boosts attack and defense with an action command), but Bowser's Terrorize is crazy crazy good on anything not immune (and it works on several bosses). The game is easy, so min/maxing your party isn't really essential, but for long fights either of these abilities will really pay off in boosting Mario's damage.

princess peach is overpowered
with the frying pan she does as much physical damage as mario and geno
she only has one attack spell but it does as much magical damage as mallow
and her healing spells are cheap and pretty much fully heal your party

most people tend to use a party of mario, geno and peach
but for nostalgia purposes a lot of people use mario, bowser, peach

almost no one uses mallow
i put him back in my party for the nimbus land segment and then bench him for the rest of the game

I don't think so -- pretty sure that's literally random. You can press nothing and still get a freebie sometimes.

You should probably equip the jump shoes to use jump on any enemy and power up the regular jump spell by using it about as much as possible, but don't go overboard either.

Mario's first spell, Jump, gains 1 point of magic power for every two times it is used. This is a permanent increase in power for the spell. Using it frequently should allow you to power through much of the early game. This will eventually cap at 127 power (255 jumps max). This boost doesn't apply to Super or Ultra Jump.

the only thing you would need a guide for are the following

- finding toadstools best weapon the frying pan
- finding the lazy shell weapon and armor
- finding grate guys casino
- finding culex the optional superboss

I don't think so, but there a lot a pretty good (and not so good) secret items. I don't know that there's really a hole lot that is missible. There is definitely some hard to find secrets though.

So, it has begun! Of course the game starts with Mario saving the Princess. I storm Bowsers Castle and kick his ass. However, a Giant sword embeds itself in the castle. After I get booted back to my "Pad" without the Princess, I go back to Bowsers.

The Sword is part of a gang that is gonna take over the world! It destroys the bridge and now I gotta inform the Mushroom Castle that the princess is missing! OMG!

Thats all i got. Healings a joke after princess and if you get the lazy shells then the game loses any challenge.

IMO POW every level up. Special attack and def isnt as good as normal. HP is worthless.

Met up with the Chancellor and he was like, "Go save her!"... cause that is odd of the ordinary for Mario. He did give me the greatest treasures of the castle which were exceedingly ordinary.

Frog coin, but it's more that if you miss it, you're taunted by an NPC who tracks how many you've found saying you're missing one for the rest of the game. 100% is pretty hard to define for the game, though, so it doesn't matter too much.

the toad that escorts you to the chancellor. you only have a small window of time to jump on his head then jump onto the ledge before he enters the throne room. it's really not worth worrying about imo. it's 1 frog coin, and you'll get more than enough if you know what you're doing

So...

I meet Mallow getting stolen from by a gangsta Croc. The Croc runs away since he is a thief, and Mallow cries LIKE A BITCH!

I decide to help the poor sap and we chase that Croc. We quickly catch him and beat him up until he gives up the dough! A spring randomly shows up to take us back to Mushroom Kingdom so Mallow can buy what his pops needs.

HOWEVER! The MK is under attack by what looks like Shy Guys bouncing on pogo sticks? I kick their asses for hurting my mushroom friends and go check out the Throne Room. Some sucker named Mack is there leading this army and attacks me. I jump on his head repeatedly and then he dies, giving up a Star on his death!

Made my way through the badass sewers and then down the waterfall to... I dunno. Beat up some monster in the sewers though.

Are we actually demanding the guy min/max in one of the easiest RPGs ever? Nothing wrong with just using Super Jump if you're any good at it, or any of Mario's other specials, or even regular attacks... the only part of the game that's any difficult is before you've bought a few Pick-me-ups.

So, Mallow's grandfather knows a lot of shit. He knows that I was fighting with Bowser, and that I was trying to grab the Princess but I got ejected from the castle and now Smithy blocks it.

... how you know this? What's your angle old minnow?

Anyways, he's like, "The Princess ain't dere no mo! Go help out other places and destroy Smithy's gang. You'll find the Princess and Bowser along the way probably!" Then he gave me a wand for Mallow, who he also told to go with me. WOAHMG, the weird guy who can't jump is not obviously a tadpole or a member of the frog species?! BIG SURPRISE! As an aside, the guy was like, "Yo Mario, Mallow has strong magic. Take him with ya, kay?" So I did.

Then I went and played music for some weird composer and he liked it, so I got an Alto Card?

The tadpoles get around and report back. One of them (I believe on the left side of the pond) runs a store where you can buy items with frog coins. The cards you get from Toadofsky increase what's available in the shop.

thats easy to do
if you want to make it laughably easy equip the lazy shell armor on the princess
it makes her attacks do only single digit damage so she wont contribute to killing anything with it on
but it also makes damage done to her go down to single digit numbers as well

so you can just wait for the 4 crystals to run out of FP by attacking her cause they dont have physical attacks once the FP is gone they cant attack anymore.

then you use her overpowered healing spells to bring your other party members back to life at full health

I'm on the road to Veri... er, Rose Town!

On my way to Rose Town, I snuck a peak at BOWSER! He is around, gathering his troops to raid his now overtaken keep! He seems less inclined to go after the Princess right now, and more wanting to get his home back. I'm conflicted since like... Bowser without his own Keep is probably less of a threat, but it's kinda nice to know exactly where he is at all times.

I went to Rose Town, and the residents were getting pelted with ARROWS! Yikes, that is terrifying. They're coming from the trees man, from the trees! I made my way into a nearby home and found a child playing with dolls of ME! She freaked out when she saw the REAL Mario, but ended up hitting me with some weird magic from her doll called GENO! OHMG Geno! This is where I get Geno?! And he's actually a doll come to life? COOOOOL!
