The VMP is the best gun in the game that isn't supply drop exclusive. SMG's in general are great, and if you get good with the advanced movement system, you can close the gap easily and have more firefights in SMG range.

Exactly what it sounds like. The game has supply drops (bought with keys you earn in-game or with real currency) that contain camos, calling cards, specialist costumes, and exclusive weapons.

Unfortunately, yes. Ever since Advanced Warfare. But every CoD game that's had supply drop weapons also offered an alternate way to directly unlock those weapons... except Black Ops 3. It's an unfortunate flaw in an otherwise great game in the series.

29 of the 59 non-melee weapons are SD exclusive, but none of them are overpowered at all. In fact, most of them are gimmicks or are just generally inferior to the stock weapons.

What's a good beginner "class" set up? What perks should I use etc?

I used to use Semtex and Flashbang grenades, and AK-74 gun, with Ghost, Sleight of Hand, Second Chance/Ninja perks in Blops1.
