Rapier would be a pretty badass weapon in other games (well, it *is* a pretty badass weapon in other games) where the effective damage multiplier is 3, but the English release of FE7 changed it to 2 for some reason. So weapons that get bonus damage against specific enemy types are much weaker than usual, made even worse when you have face weapon triangle disadvantage (which you always do against knights and usually do against cavaliers). Rapier ends up way wimpier than it should be as a result.

Rapier? Damn near killed her.

This map doesn't like me. I'm considering just sending Marcus to one man army the bottom half to save Priscilla and letting everyone else take care of everything else. I just don't wanna let Marcus soak experience.

Oh you're on Erik's map? I don't think there is a viable strategy that doesn't use Marcus to get Priscilla.

That's actually a pretty good strategy.

Run unarmed!Marcus towards Priscilla's village with a vulnerary, but don't have him enter it. Instead, have him stand on the entrance and do nothing for the rest of the chapter until the coast is clear. Since he's standing on top of it, pirates can't raid her village, and with his base stats, healing item and the evasion bonus from the village he's virtually unkillable.

Just don't forget to have him visit it before you kill the last enemy on the map. Oh, and recruit Erk with Serra, of course.

That will work beautifully. I didn't think to make him unarmed. Gonna do that my next run.

This throws away one of the main advantages of recruitment chapters, which is effectively cheating the deployment limit.

Marcus may eat up some experience on his way down, but you're throwing away an entire level worth of Priscilla experience.

Don't hesitate to use Marcus to solve any and all problems, you're not screwing yourself over by letting him get experience. One of the biggest things that gives people difficulty in Fire Emblem games is their refusal to just use their strongest characters to get things done. You'll be fine in the long run unless you actively try not to be.

Just FYI. Marcus isn't even that bad of a unit in this game. On SF he's even widely considered to be one of the best. And even if he wasn't good, like, straight up. You should have enough Fire Emblem experience by now to know that letting your Jagen get kills in the early game won't hurt you much in the long run. If anything, it's actually more wasteful to not use them since they will never have the dominating advantage that they have in the early game ever again.

I just figure the experience is better put elsewhere. Like, I didn't have any issues using Titania and Seth, but I liked them a lot, and used them a lot. I'm not so sure I like Marcus enough to keep him around yet. But I guess I shouldn't be so stingy.

It's true the experience is better spent elsewhere, but there are more considerations in play here, particularly getting Priscilla up and running. I mean, if you're that worried about it, you could always run Marcus down there naked, as suggested above, but that effectively means that Priscilla won't be getting much EXP until the next chapter. Plus, it's not very fun to keep playing the same map over and over again.

Getting Priscilla without Marcus is certainly possible, I do it every time on hard (I think I remember you being on normal).

Just get Matthew and / or Guy down there ASAP to stall all the pirates while staying out of the cavaliers range, their dodge is good enough to take them in without dying. Hector or Oswin can whittle the central force down for everyone else to sweep up.

Tbh I find it easier to clear a majority of the chapter before the rain but alternatively you can wait until the rain to take on the second wave on Cavs, they won't threaten anyone with their 2 move in rain.

That is exactly what I do all the time. Guy down south to take the pirates and Hector down the middle.

Decided to turtle the map. You know, take it slow, play it safe. Then the soldiers decided to use a stolen key and rush out, ruining the whole plan. They killed that recruitable guy. Reset.

The map with raven? No need to turtle, it's pretty easy to rush units into the double file chokepoints and then take the enemies at your own pace. Just park two decent DEF units (something like Sain/ Lowen works until Hector catches up) in adjacent squares and then enemies can't pass.

Make sure you leave someone (Oswin is decent for this since you wanna go fast in this chapter) to fight the Cavs that will come up on Merlinus.

Fyi this fire emblem in particular tends to find various ways to punish turtling, like putting recruitable characters behind some enemies, having thieves get to villages in x turns, or having Gaiden characters with turn requirements, so you generally want to keep a decent pace forward.

Yeah, it wasn't bad, Turtling is just my preferred strategy. Put the right people in the right spots, I can support, I can give experience where I want, there is minimal danger, and all is good. Well, until I have a beefed up unit I can throw in and solo with. Like Best Girl Jill from Path of Radiance.

Probably cause they didn't detect a kill for Florina. Potential kills are always higher priority, especially with effective damage being only 2x. Even in Path of Radiance where Shade is a thing, potential kill even takes priority over Shade+another unit that can't counter. ...Then I played FE4, where Peg Knights are all too happy to fight Yewfelle at two range even when less suicidal options were present. The older (than GBA) games were funny like that, apparently.

Only need one generic soldier to survive for Port of Badon btw. Might even be the best outcome for a casual playthrough because the mine glitch is OP.

Tried running my way up there, can't get Priscilla to him fast enough, just as I'm turning that last corner to get to him, the soldiers have busted out and are attacking. If I could go like one turns worth faster, I'd have him.

I frankly have no idea how the soldiers are getting to him before he gets to you. You're either going really slow, or it's easier to recruit him on hard mode than normal mode.
