I'd tell you that the tipping system works in favor of the restaurants and not the patrons or the servers, but you'd get a hate boner if I tried to tell you that this volatile system should not be supported for logical reasons.

TLDR, GIVE them money, don't "tip"

tipping is taxable income, plus it has to be "reported" as earnings to the company/goverment.

Remember that even on the bills it says "For all debts public and private"

And read the minimum wage laws, it clearly says how that works.

In fact, fast food workers are not allowed to accept tips (because it doesn't benefit the company) and the extra is supposed to be put in the drawer, where it is counted as total earnings.

The same people who say " the customer is always right" as well. if the customer GIVES me $XX, that $XX is mine, not the company's money.

You get the delusion that "you're a cheapass and these servers work hard for it"

That is true, but you don't know how the system works. The tipping system is designed to let the 1% pay their wage/salary and not the 99% who have millions of dollars. All of you are fighting over tipping vs non tipping while they (the companies) are walking all the way to the bank.

They make minimum wage. Employers are required to make the difference if they did not get enough tips.

And THAT is exactly it. EMPLOYERS (The Company) are REQUIRED to make up the difference.

So if (server wage)+(poor peoples contributions)=(minimum wage) then the 99% paid the difference and NOT the company, who have billions of dollars, versus you, who could be fighting to make it paycheck to paycheck, on a highly villified ideology of "You're an asshole if you don't tip"

Shame tactics have worked since the 1930s. And are the reason why mouthwash and wedding rings caught on so well.

I actively avoid tipping establishments. Let them lose money and fail. Hell, I hear in Europe, if you try to tip, they'll ask you "Why are you giving me this" versus my fellow Americans, who are "If you can't afford to tip, you can't eat here!"

I've been to Europe (England, Greece, and France), and tourist spots actually expect and welcome tips now.

You ever notice when they ask for a drink, they never tell you it's chargeable?

If you ask how much the drink is they are required to answer. Just get water if you can, it's free.

If not, you can share your soda with others, they are supposed to give refills for free until you can't drink anymore. So if you have a party of 4....that's about $6 (3 cups) you can save.

That's how I save money at Mcdonalds. Get 1 drink, share with girlfriend, spend $1 instead of $2. Top off before you leave. This is especially profitable for them in the Drive-Thru, as you cannot get free refills if you aren't an inside customer.

Uh... Restaurants are not legally required to give you free water (there are some that actually charge you for tap water now), and restaurants are certainly not required to give you free refills.

I'm pro tipping, but why in the hell would I tip at a buffet when I'm doing all the work? The whole premise of a tip is to ensure speedy and friendly service. There's no service other than people collecting plates and that's not tip worthy.
