It varies by location.

My extended family rents out their 1-bedroom basement suite. The current tenant has been there for a few years and I believe he's paying $850 a month, and that includes the utilities. Also he doesn't drive. He's been using public transport to get to and from work. He is currently in the process of looking to buy a used vehicle though. I think he's paying child support too.

where i live, 1 bedroom apartments are 2000 minimum. a 3 bed room house to rent is about 5000 a month.
