I think you have this the wrong way round

If you're on hourly then the amount of time you spend at work is a key part of your job

If you're on salary and your job isn't something that requires you to be there for specific times, the actual time spent in the office is secondary to the amount of work you get done

In my last job they didn't give a fuck if I walked out at 12pm on a wednesday provided I got all my projects in line, went to all my scheduled meetings and generally got my work done. In this job I have to be there for specific times but that's because of our service level agreements. But none of this has anything to do with being on salary.

I blew off a fighting game tournament and almost lost a hotel room I paid for already because I had to stay until 11:30 PM doing fuckin busy work, all because Im the single guy with nothing better to do.

I only started my new job today and I left on time. The job I had for the last 2 years I would leave 30+ minutes early regularly. I'd also leave for 2-4 hours in the middle of the day as well. My new job would be harder to do that. I'm literally less than a 60 second walk from the school to my apartment but I'm also 1 of 5 staff so it's a bit hard to disappear like that.

I leave when my relief arrives. Usually anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes early. I also arrive early everyday, between 10 and 15 minutes.
