It's not the end all be all, but it most certainly is a big factor. When you're strong at a trade or a skill, that gives you something to take pride in, when you have something to take pride in, it strengths your own worth and value as a human being.

it definitely can come partly from confidence, but there are still tons of competent people who lack confidence and tons of people with zero competence and way too much competence. I don't think competence is the main factor in confidence, or even a particularly big one

I dunno, tests like this are weird. It just seems like every question is: "I feel like I'm shit". I thought it'd be more subtle, like more psychological questions that will determine what you really think of yourself even if you don't know it.

The whole quiz is basically asking "do you have low self esteem?" And then if you answer yes, then the quiz tells you you have low self esteem.

I feel like the situations you're referring to are a minority, and a lot of people with zero competence with a ton of confidence are convinced they are competent. Your statement reminds me of that trend of where those with not much ability in a certain trade have a ton of confidence and overestimate their ability but as they learn more and more and become more immersed in said trade, they lose their confidence as their ability increases and underestimate their abilities. I can't remember the term for this.

That being said, I stand by my original statement. A strong source of confidence is your competence, in what you can do and have achieved.

I mean, the quiz might as well be one question, with as blatant as it is. It also lacks nuance. There are times you can be bad at something and it doesn't mean you hate yourself and life, lol.

Yeah, this is what I was saying.

The quiz just needs to be one question: "Do you feel like you have low self-esteem?"

And then it tells you whether you have low self esteem or not.
