Between the afterlife, the handbook of the recently deceased, the sand worms, and beetle juice himself, it seems like there was a huge backstory that is just never explained. Im watching it right now and beetle juice says he lived through the bubonic plague, which (looking it up on google) says it was the 6th century, in the 1300s. So was he alive then? Or is he some kind of god/demon?

I would love to pick the brain of Tim burton about this in particular. Im sure he had the whole story in his brain at one time. Or maybe not, and he was just making shit up as he went.

Either way, it would make for a great tv show, now that tv is amazing

The first recorded epidemic of the Black Death / Bubonic Plague was in Europe during the 6th Century. The disease truly became pandemic in 1328 - the medieval period of the history of the world. During this period a third of the world population died.

No I just drunked it up.

That's right. You're the president.

As for the movie, one of my observations is the set up of a pully system for the hung and flattened.

Because it's not like one already exists, right? >_>

Granted, "great" is a stretch.

The original was fun, but didnt follow the story set by the movie*.

And either way, I would love a live action beetle juice show on fx.

Imagine it.

This. The vast majority of the time, the backstory is better left being mysterious rather than trying to fill it in and explain it.

Darth Vader's character was ruined by the prequel trilogy.
Hannibal Lector was best when we didn't know his childhood history.
Prometheus' origin for the Xenomorph Aliens was lame.
So on and so on.

Sometimes the mysterious is best left just remaining mysterious and unexplained.

Great observation professor

But they're right. Having to come up with ideas yourself is fun and can lead to even more interest in a series (or whatever standalone media it is) than if it was all spelled out for you.
