I just read about a future Hawkeye movie, a nice guys TV show, you got oceans 8.

Like we didn't even really get much of the current Hawkeye and feige wants to make a movie with a female Hawkeye.

Marvel tried creating new diverse heroes, but no one bought it. So, theyre just rebranding old heroes.

There are growing pains to get from that disingenuous diversity to push it, versus organic diversity by virtue of itself. And when that part of society that goes "reeeeeeeeeeee" every time the former gets implemented, it's going to just delay the latter they so claim to desire.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that it's just more simple then that. This new "paradigm shift" doesn't really feel that disingenuous to me, it's just more in our awareness because any change from the near 100% male-centric hollywood will be a stark contrast. When someone's initial emotional response is negative toward that though, it's probably they're just insecure or misogynistic and refuse to admit it.

it's not that having female characters is bad, or even having a female take the lead of a story, it's often times, especially today, the female is basically acting like a man but she has boobs so she's hot.

theres also an often unrealistic nature to the female leading characters of today, they are often stronger than the men, which defies natural biology. an average sized women that is say 5'5 and 130 lbs is not going to naturally just overpower a man that has a good 70 lbs or more on her. it just isn't happening, yet in the movies this happens constantly.

take the old movie the shining, the female lead in that movie while she ultimately wins, she remains feminine the entire time. she only survives because of her femininity and what i mean is she survives by not fighting her husband head on in a fist fight as she recognizes she will get her ass kicked. so you can have girls win and remain feminine.

write females as you know females, not as men with boobs. do that and i think people won't keep revolting at this gender swapping crap, which it's clear they want to push a gender swapping agenda.

I like how the last Mad Max did it... female lead character, didn't make a lick of difference that it was a woman, there weren't a million references to her gender, she was just a woman on a mission to kick ass.

genders aren't just interchangable pallet swaps.

why can't she be feminine and still save the day? thats the whole point of having female characters, its for them to act like females. thats the whole point of male characters, for them to act like males.

and does absolutely make a difference.....the average sized woman is not physically stronger than the average sized man.

But now you're creating artificial divisions between people instead of just appreciating that a person is kicking ass in a movie about people being scary and kicking ass. There's nothing about her being a woman that affects the plot, which is what makes it great - she's a human being.

you can't divorce a persons sex and gender from their character no matter how hard you try. stories have to sell believablity to the point where i get immersed in the story. in a story where a 100 lb female beats a 200 lb man, there needs to be a reason for this beyond "equality". if you offer no explanation like the case of buffy the vampire slayer, then it makes 0 sense for it to happen or at least some kind of hint or something, otherwise we tend to just assume the rules of the movie are the same rules as we see in real life.

in a story about ass kicking, there needs to be a reason this happens and not just "because why not" or the story sucks.

so you can try all you want to say sex/gender doesn't matter.....but thats not how life works.

A female counterpart (replacement or not) is a very old trope.
