The Dark Knight is a masterpiece

most people who say this don't actually read batman comics. the only good thing about Dark Knight was Joker. I bet Heath Ledger read the comics but I don't think Bale did

Batman Begins and TDK were great.

Bale was basically a Batman who was fine leaving behind a legacy and retiring, which is fine for movies because we know hes never getting a happy ending in the comics lol

Does Snyder read comics? Lol

If the performance is good enough, they can redefine the character.
And it's not like they're uniform in the comics, should Leto be reading Batman 66 for Joker inspiration?

Thats sort of my point. His last two-three movies were travesties that didnt understand the characters they were about.

What do Batman comics have to do with a movie being great? And which Batman comics should a movie stay faithful to?

Things aren't good or bad due to faithfulness, but quality.

I'm sure he understands the characters, he just has a different vision of what they should be in a film. (A crappy one but different none the less.)

At the very least people who actively hate superheroes shouldn't be behind their movies (like Snyder)

it shows a lack of understanding of the character when someone doesn't follow the comics and makes up their own version of batman.

most of the comics from the 80's onward would be fine. Batman in the comics is very different from Bale's Batman.

tbf that's pretty much what elseworlds are.

Frank Miller's ASBAR is pretty much an extreme sociopathic wrong version of Batman but damn if it ain't entertaining

Nah, it's a good thing that movies deviate heavily from the source material.

So? It's a good thing that movies deviate heavily from the source material. Who would win in a fight or competition =/= better.

The movie universes are often separate, and often better than the comic book versions. The stories should be less faithful if it makes them better stories.

You do realize that most comics have many, many different universes or re-writes?

In the same sense, you can do this with movies.

Except when the comics suck, which happens all the time. It's the studio, director and writers choice to deviate from the source material. Hell, you have Todd McFarlane making a Spawn movie right now that sounds almost nothing like the source material as it stands now.

Very often not the case.

The movies are better than the comic versions, very frequently. Therefore, deviation is a good thing, as it improves the quality of the story.

Ive read a few Flash comics when I was a kid. I never remembered Harry Wells. Turns out he was never in the comics. And thats ok because his character is excellent.

There are too many variations of each comic hero/protagonist. The shows or movies can loosley base their movies on them and Im fine with that. Its the way is always been, even for comics.

How many times have DC rebooted their universe?
3 times?
Which one should we read? Why can't they base a movie on one of the earlier pre-reboot universes?
What about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
We got at least 12 different versions of them running around, do we really need to base a new movie on that new Nickelodeon show?

I'm just not a fan of the Nolan Batman movies. and I am annoyed that Nolan and Bale don't seem to respect the source material. Nolan especially. he went on record saying he hates all the non realistic parts of Batman. well piss off, buddy. maybe Batman isn't for you.

that's why I was excited when Ben Affleck got hired. he's actually a huge fan of the comics. people make fun of him, but I think he does a good batman. we could argue on how good his Bruce Wayne is, but he's a better Batman than Bale was
