People saying they're not going to vote for Trump but they don't even know who the Democratic candidate is going to be yet. Saying your hatred of Trump will supersede literally anyone else is being irrational and illogical, everything is in relative terms.

The problem isn't even the candidates themselves at this point, most people have a hatred of politicians, both the democratic and republican parties in general, and they've showed no attempt to change since the election. If anything, the whole establishment has doubled down.

It seems like the DNC is grooming Kamala Harris as their pick.

I kind of like her as an option. Ignoring the fact that it'd be hilarious to have a black woman as President right after a racist sexist, and even ignoring the fact that if Harris or Gillibrand wins we'd have the world's hottest President, I do like Harris well enough. She's more liberal than I am but I don't need to agree with a candidate on everything.

And after the past ~40 years, this country really needs a hard liberal push to shove it back toward modernity. We've been doing this crazy conservative kick for too long and need to even back out. The very fact that policies like universal healthcare, maternity/paternity leave, and environmental regulations are considered liberal in this country says enough. That shit should be standard.

I cringe at people who say "Better than Hillary!" How did so many get this idea that she's like the worst, most objectionable politician ever? There is no real basis for it other than enough people saying it that I guess they fooled everyone else into thinking it was true. Not saying that she doesn't have any shady shit on her record, but what high-profile politician doesn't? I guess maybe Bernie doesn't have a lot, but he wasn't high-profile at all until he ran. In a sense he was like the worst possible juxtaposition to make Hillary appear worse. I'm still scared of the thought that we could have a relatively clean Dem nominee in 2020 but if they're Literal Satan solely by acclimation, enough people will buy it to get Trump re-elected.

I know some people will say "The same applies to Trump!", but I mean, come on... it was plainly obvious just in the way he talks and acts and who he surrounds himself with that he's not qualified to be president.

Also to clarify I'm not saying it's wrong for people to say they disagree with liberal values so they thought Hillary was a bad choice. It's more so that there is some sort of issue with Hillary specifically, even though she probably wouldn't be much different of a president in terms of policy than any other typical Dem. We knew with Trump that we were going to get questionable policy decisions that go beyond a typical Republican (as well as childish conduct inappropriate for a first-world leader).

>Complains about giving time of day to leaders with egregious human rights violations
>Complains about our relations with Mexico, a country notorious for human rights violations and criminal government behavior -- where, thanks to things like mayors colluding with drug kingpins, parts of the country have basically seceded and now have their own private police forces

Otherwise the NK issue is emblematic of the irrational "anything he does is wrong" approach by the far-left to Trump, especially considering he's been criticized the far-left for playing strong and playing weak. (Pick a narrative and stick to it!)

Chewster posted...

You don't need to be the most objectionable president ever for somebody to be worse than somebody else. And part of Hillary's downfall (besides not bothering to court voters in many areas) was that she embodied establishment politics at a time when establishment politics were unpopular.

Otherwise, it's worth remembering she has a spotty political record (being a hawkish proponent of regime change, which spectacularly backfired), a history of cronyism (although some of it is guilt-by-association through Bill), and a fair share of political & personal scandals.

Chewster posted...

Bernie has his fair share of questionable history, perhaps most notably relating to the FBI investigation into whether his office influenced a bank loan. And Bernie Sanders was a terrible candidate in general, having spent all of his life in politics yet failing basic political questions in spectacular fashion.

Chewster posted...

It's not a matter of whether or not he was clean, he was a populist (like Trump) and Hillary was establishment.

Her policy was notably different, as she proposed shit that her primary rivals thought was fucking insane like opening up gunmakers to lawsuits which was a transparent way to create a backdoor gun ban. And, of course, she was a proponent of regime change (being more hawkish than other Dems) and supported trade deals that unions hated.

I'm not saying that Hillary would have been the worst candidate (because Bernie Sanders, Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, and Carly were running), but I don't expect she would have been much more effective than Trump and a lot of her policy was abhorrent.
