A felon with a firearm.
People act like this was an innocent bystander who mouthed off to police.

The report filed is based off of the video and the eye witness reports.

They found a gun in the vicinity of where he was running. It's pretty hard to dispute body cam footage.

Because the cop explicitly states...

"Theres a gun around here, he had a gun. A tec-9 I think."

That would implicate he pulled a gun out at some point between the stop and foot chase.

He could have also seen it on his waistband, or he ditched it. The video doesn't really show the guy pulling out a gun. But weren't there a couple literally right next to the cop when he fired? And one person was hiding behind a wall. Lucky he hit his target but that's risky behavior I wouldn't want other, less skilled police to feel enabled to do.

Ive watched live pd, religiously. I have seen many many people run with the guns and not once has a police officer chased after the guy and shot him running away. Not once.

It's literally impossible to tell because the body cam is shaking too much.

But the cop apparently saw him take out a gun and that's when he fired.

He mentions the gun to his partners and they found a gun afterwards. So it's a safe conclusion to make.

If you don't shoot, what are your options? Let him run off? Pursue, and open yourself up to getting shot? Let him possibly injure or kill others?

If you do fire, you take the chance of injuring or killing a civilian yourself, or that you might just wound the suspect. He returns fire; now, you've got rounds going both ways.

The officer was within his rights to open fire. Was it dangerous to the public? Absolutely, but there are instances where that's going to happen. Police can't dictate where the confrontation takes place every time.
