I'm still in Chapter 1. Do I just level up Ramza to 6 in Squire to get Onion Knight?

Is it worth it then to level up Squire a bunch early on? Or should I move onto long ranged combat?

Currently I have Ramza as a Squire, and then I have a rando as a Knight, rando as a Chemist, another rando Chemist, another rando Squire.

Ramza makes one of the best Samurais in the game due to his MA/PA growth, so I usually just take him down the Knight route.

For Ramza, it doesn't hurt to have some JP stashed away on Squire for when his unique Squire abilities show up. Beyond that though, I'd move him to Knight or Monk.

If you want him to take advantage of the Dark Knight class, I'd definitely master Knight and maybe have a rando or two learn a bunch of Black Mage spells to sacrifice their crystals to Ramza later.

Finished up the first story part, taking out the dastardly Dark Brigade or whatever. I do remember a decent amount of the story (though not all of it), but boy in WOTL it makes it quite clear that this game is basically Game of Thrones before GOT's was cool.

We have discovered the location of the people who stole Tietra from us! Agrath told us where they are. He is a proud man who holds birthright above all things however, and has basically told us that my brother and family will not spill their own blood for a commoner.

Agrath leaves us after his disparaging remarks against Delita. However, we decide to move against Wiegraf and his group, trying to get Tietra back.

Along the way to their location, Delita expresses his desire to change things and the power of an army to make those changes happen. I sympathize with his plight, but we must tend to Tietra before we worry about the world as a whole and what should change in our society.

I keep Ramza as a Squire until L99 for that MA and speed growth. Use your generics for spillover JP.

Chapter 1 he's usually Squire + Geomancer. Chapter 2 onwards he's Squire + Samurai.

Don't bother with Onion Knight. It's a garbage class and not really worth the trouble by the time you unlock its full potential.

There's really not a lot you can do wrong in this game when it comes to choosing class. Just experiment with what you want. You'll find that there are a lot of game breaking skills in this game (i.e. shirahadori) that makes the game a joke. Hell, the game itself gives you a certain 'TG' that can pretty much solo the game easily.

On my way to the fortress I ran into Millueda, someone who is with the cause of the Death Brigades. Not seeing her as a true enemy, just a victim of circumstance I had let her go in an earlier encounter.

She fought against us again, claiming any Beoulve is her enemy. She fought to her last breath, using that last breath to express regret of her failure to stop us to her brother. Who this brother is we do not know.

Delita took the encounter especially hard. He nearly begged her to release Tietra, neither her nor Delita being of noble birth. She didn't see it that way and claimed Delita would never see her released. Delita... common people see him as a noble. Noble people see him as a commoner. His sister is kidnapped for a cause he isn't really a part of.

All I know is that they are siblings to us, and we will stop at nothing to get her back safe and sound!

Making our way to a nearby windmill, we encounter Wiergraf. The leader of the Death Brigade.

He attacks us with a fury as we discover it is his sister we unfortunately had to kill previously. He has a small regiment with him and he is a formidable threat himself with abilities foreign to my experiences. As we battle I try to convince him to give up and give us back Tietra. While he deems that he never intended to take anyone, he does not believe he will get fair treatment for giving up. He believes the world is unjust and will fight to the death to protect his ideals.

Upon his defeat, he makes a bold statement. He says it was my brother Dycedarg who ordered Tietra be taken! That is rubbish, she is a sister to us. That makes no sense. Wiegraf makes a claim that noble houses are making a move to put who they want on the throne as the King lay dying in his bed. I do not believe a Beoulve would ever use their own family as a way to make political moves! No. Wiegraf is a liar trying to make us doubt one another.

He used some sort of teleportation to escape his defeat... no doubt retreating to the nearby fortress to Marshall his forces. We will meet him there, get Tietra back, and turn this experience into a bad memory.

As we made our way to the Fortress, we already found Gragoroth holding Tietra hostage. My brother Zalbaag was with Argath, Zalbaag ordering Argath to fire at them both. He hit Tietra with a crossbow bolt, injuring her, and after hitting Gragoroth. Gragoroth slinked away into a nearby building. Zalbaag walked away to take on more members of the Death Brigade.

Argath showed no remorse for having tried to kill Tietra, saying that all common blooded people are meant to be used by the elite. Argath then summoned his group of people, attacking us. Argath basically taunts Delita about being a commoner, while also making fun of me for being so soft-hearted to actually care about common people. Common people are to be used for the betterment of the nobles, so says Argath.

We defeated Argath, who lamented being defeated by a commoner. Delita went to rescue his sister, but Gragoroth set fire to the powder kegs in the building nearby, causing it to explode. Delita and I were caught in the explosion, though before I passed out, I thought I saw Delita holding his sister before being engulfed in flames.

I came to alone, wandering the snow. I turned my back on my family, on the Order, having lived my life the only way I knew how. Maybe I wasn't meant for this life. But, I need to live still.

...

I told this story to Gafgarion, the leader of our outfit. As I saw who I imagined to be Delita steal the Princess away... I need to know more!

Gaffgarion tells me not to care about the Princess having been stolen, as it is above our pay grade... but I have to know. I have to know if it was Delita who took the princess. Agrias did not want our assistance, I sensed she wanted to acquire her quarry on her own. A matter of pride, perhaps. I made my case that I would not get in the way and I would help her. There is nothing wrong with wanting to do the right thing!

We made our way to the city where a group of vagabonds were there to try and stop us. We routed them on our way through. Agrias showed herself to be quite impatient, not thinking through the situation. Gaffgarion, despite having not wanted to be involved in this at all, oddly helped her to calm herself. We moved into the woods to follow them, saving a Chocobo we named Boko. Wild Chocobo's are quite powerful, and have the magical ability to heal!

We moved to the Falls... and I found him there, with the Princess. It was Delita, with Ovelia. The people trying to recapture her called out to Gaffgarion, telling him to kill them all! He admitted that he is in the Order's employ, and was paid to see the princess safely abducted, and the order to kill the man who kidnapped her! Delita! It was all a ploy! Gaffgarion talked too much however, admitting, "So long as she lives, the threat remains that someone could assert her claim above Prince Orinus'. Two heirs are one too many!"

Delita surmises that both of the Lion's could be responsible, but asks me if it sounds like Dycegard. Gaffgarion tells me to earn my pay, but I will no longer sit idly back as innocent people are sacrificed to put someone on the throne! I will protect Ovelia and Delita!

During the battle against Gaffgarion, Delita asks me about my allegiances. I have no allegiance to anyone but myself and what I feel is right! I knew nothing of any of this! Gaffgarion accuses Delita of lying, assured of himself that Delita is also part of this game. Delita only wished to save the Princess, nothing more. At least that is what he says. Ovelia asks Delita about his actions, and Delita stated he is simply a human, the same as her.

I implored to Gaffgarion to stop this, but he simply remarks that he is a sellsword and this is part of the contract he took on. If it wasn't him, it would have been someone else. He asks me if I honestly believe that I can change what is happening. I'm not sure I can, but what I am sure of is that I won't sit by while innocent people are harmed and killed to move themselves closer to the vacant throne. We defeat Gaffgarion, but he teleports away before I could incapacitate him.

Delita mentions to us that he will take the Princess. The Northern Sky is now hunting us, and we have no allies to turn to in keeping the Princess safe. Both of my brothers are involved in this plot, the plot that led one of them to kill Tietra. While we have no plan currently on how to keep Ovelia safe, Delita does leave without her, though he did say "for now". He has plans that I don't know about... Delita moves through this as a part of the game now. I just don't know who he plays for, and what piece he is.

Agrias states we can ask Cardinal Delacroix for help. The Church would be able to protect us from the Northern Order too. We make for Lionel!

Here's how you win the game forever:
1. Alchemist until you get Auto Potion
2. Monk until you can get Martial Arts
3. Ninja for the rest of your life.

At higher levels you can get multiple turns per enemy turn, and Martial Arts seems to do bonus damage based on speed or something. You can easily get an unarmed ninja to punch for 2x999 damage.

We made our way to the City of Zaland

We encountered a man getting attacked by some ruffians! This was the perfect opportunity to prove our convictions to do what is right. We took out those who were attacking him, and his name turned out to be Mustadio. He was being attacked by people from the Baert Trading Company, which he said is into some BAD stuff. When Agrias asked him why this company wanted him, he deflected the question, eventually stating he needed to see the Cardinal to save his father. Again, wondering why his father was needing saving, Mustadio simply said he couldn't tell yet. Agrias immediately declined to take him along, but Ovelia agreed to take him with us!

We made our way to the Castle of Cardinal Delcroix! He heard our plea and set himself to speak to the leader of the church about our situation. We are under his protection in his castle.

He seemed far more interested in Mustadio and his reasons for seeing him. Turns out Mustadio knows where a piece of Auracite is; underneath the city of Goug.. This is believed to hold the power of the Zodiac Braves, a group of 12 Warriors who saved the world countless times in the past. The Baert Trading Company seeks the Auracite. The church will send a company to retrieve the Auracite and save Mustadio's father.

I will also make my way there.

We've been had!

We made our way to Goug to join the company that was to confront the Baert Trading Company. However, there was no sign of the Company or any of the Cardinal's troops. Mustadio told us to meet him in Lower Goug, as he was going to look around to see what was going on in the city.

When we made it there, we were ambushed by the leader of the Baert Trading Company, who now had both Mustadio and his father hostage. I had to see them released safely, and Mustadio told me where he hid the Auracite. I gave it to Ludovich and he released Mustadio. However, he chuckled and mentioned how "The Cardinal will be very pleased we have this!" Again I am tricked by those who I would believe to be allies! The Church is also in on this plot? Ludovich orders us all to death and leaves with the stone.

We emerge victorious from the encounter, and quickly retrieve Mustadio's father. He laments how we gave the stone to Ludovich, only for Mustadio to explain that what Ludovich got was a fake. He held the Auracite the entire time! This is no time for celebration, as I have begun to piece together a tiny bit of this treachery. I believe that the Church is moving against the Crown, using the Zodiac Braves and the Auracite as means of leveraging power. Regular people who are being used by the nobles in these intricate plots to the throne are growing weary, and the Church can leverage that to gain favor with everyone!

We left Agrias and the Princess with the Cardinal! When they discover the stone they have is a fake, I have no idea what they might do to them! We have to make our way back to the Castle! We have to save Ovelia!

We made our way around the sea to attack the castle from behind. We met up with Delita AGAIN! He seems to know what is happening all around us AS it happens to us. When I question what he is trying to do, he says he wants to save Princess Ovelia. He says that WE can't do it, but he can. When I question him further, he waxes prophetic about how everyone is caught up in a stream of forces not yet seen, and that he swims against it.

He obviously has an intention of saving Ovelia, but what ulterior motives does he have? I have no time to parse from him his meaning, we need to move to save Ovelia. We make our ways to a nearby creek and spot Agrias being tailed by forces from the Church! She tells us that the Cardinal has betrayed us, and is working with Duke Larg! They are going to EXECUTE the Princess! How could they even justify such a thing? The Church combined with Duke Larg are a formidable force, but I will not allow them the opportunity! After we dispatched with those who were going after Agrias, we move to Golgollada Gallows!

Again, we are deceived!

The Gallows did not hold the Princess, but a trap to try and kill us! Gaffgarion again tries to convince me that my brothers are doing the right thing. He says that Larg is bloodying his hands so that the injustices of the world will cease. He will make things better, and is willing to do the dirty work to make it happen. He impresses upon me that it is "right", and to do the right thing as a Beoulve! I will do the right thing; the thing my father would have wanted! I will not continue to sit back to let others die just to satisfy my ambitions! Tietra's death will not be just another forgotten name to history! No!

We dispatch of the trap at the Gallows, and again Gaffgarion teleports away. The coward refuses to die. He won't sacrifice HIMSELF for his ideals. It is laughable that this coward would dare to tell me to allow others to die for some ideal world that one man see's fit for himself. Even if that man is my own brother.

I'm gonna do some leveling up before I continue further, mainly because I want to move Ramza into the Dragoon and then into Samurai. But, I still need some in Archer, since I forgot I needed that. We made our way to Castle to rescue the Princess, but again Gaffgarion was there awaiting with an ambush! I had made my way around to open the castle gates for my companions, but Gaffgarion would not allow me to do so. It was just he and I on the one side of the gate, while my companions were on the other. For the first time, I had to completely trust them to deal with their own enemies while I had to fight alone.

Gaffgarion had abilities that could drain my own energy and seemingly could supliment his own! I used the powers of the Monk to make myself better, harder, faster, stronger. Eventually, with two mighty blows, I felled Gaffgarion. He remarked how he was cold. I knew this time he would not teleport away. It gave me no pleasure to have to kill anyone, but I bid him farewell as he left this mortal coil.

My battle with Gaffgarion took longer than the battle my friends fought, as I could hear them attempting to scramble to my aid. They told me that their encounters were relatively simple in comparison.

After dispatching Gaffgarion, we entered Castle Lionel and met up with Cardinal Delacroix. He offers a final choice to leave the auracite and leave Lionel. I don't care what this pawn has to say, all I care about is Lady Ovelia. After questioning my plans, he lets it known that Ovelia is gone to Zeltennia, claiming she has accepted their help versus waiting for mine. He offers me the chance to join him, saying that all they want to do is change the world with the help of Ovelia.

Why does he think himself worthy of changing the world when he laughed at my desire to simply not have anyone be used for that purpose? I am not so naive as to think Delacroix has much "power" in all this. He then lets it slip that the auracite we have can twist nature itself. He then gave us a demonstration of this power. He held out his own auracite and what I saw next I can hardly describe.

Light and power filled the room. Evil felt as if it knocked at my chest. One moment I was looking at Delacroix, the next I looked at... a demon? A monster? Is this what the auracite does to people? I thought it held the power of the Zodiac Braves?

We fought this demon with the entirety of our power. As the entity that once was Delacroix was defeated, he lamented how "I, Undying, here should die. A death come early, ere my master could return" He then exploded, or rather perhaps imploded back into the auracite from once he came, no sign of Delacroix". Who is this master? What did Delacroix become? Who took Ovelia to Zeltennia?

Sounds pretty abdass to me, also IIRC you can combine that with the monk so the monk hits twice for insane damage.

But it has been like 10 years since I playd and the only thing I remember is that my arithmetician constantly sent orbital strikes to all enemies on the map.

Samurai kind of sucks as a main job since their skills are magic based and their magic stat is weak and their equipment options suck. I'd go with a bare handed Ninja (better equipment options than a Monk) with Martial Arts. Put Blade Grasp on them and whatever secondary job you like.
