I liked StarCraft but I was admittedly terrible at it. But the custom maps were fun enough on their own that I got tons of hours out of it

I played so much Halo 1 and 2 back in the day, but then I couldn't afford a 360 for a long time so I basically missed out on Halo 3. I did play it a few times in college, my freshman year there was a big tournament for it in our dorm. That just made me remember there were Rock Band tournaments as well. That and GH are solid contenders for the list I forgot about

Mass Effect 3
The Witcher 3
Dragon Age: Origins
KOTOR
KOTOR 2
Uncharted 4
The Last of Us
Final Fantasy 7

Interesting list. Obviously quite different from mine but still a lot of highly-regarded games. Just goes to show how many great games there really are out there.

I always tend to forget about PC games but as you saw there are quite a few on my list. The thing is, I don't really play PC games much, but when I do they're really great

Here's mine. I don't have a game company that would take up the majority of my list but I'll do non squaresoft/square-enix stuff because that would take up at least 2-3

Pokemon Silver (could be any pokemon game really, but I still feel G/S/C added the most game changing features and were way ahead of its time)
Age of Empires II
The Witcher 3
The Last of Us
Resident Evil 4
Civilization 5 (could be Civ 4-6 but 5 is the one I've played the most)
Roller Coaster Tycoon
Dark Cloud 2
Rimworld
Don't Starve

consolation:
A Link to the Past
Breath of the Wild

Fair enough. You do get some great value on there but even I, not being much of a PC gamer, have quite a bit on there that I'm never likely to play. So the value tends to even out in that way.

RE4 is definitely one of those seminal games. It largely invented the modern third person shooter. Everything that's come after, be it Gears of War or Uncharted is basically iterating on RE4. And I can't wait to play the RE2 remake made in that style.

I started writing my top 10 non-RPG's and it was a lot of Nintendo. I don't know man, this is tough. I guess I zeroed in on my preferences pretty easily. I need to think of a worthy challenge before I join this game.

Also, folks, I bought a laptop today. It's pretty sweet. It's got red keys that light up.

Well there's no real need for any restrictions, I just did it because my top ten would otherwise be pretty much all Mario and Zelda games. Okay, not really, but I probably could name ten of those and it wouldn't feel like a crazy list to me.

What if you did a full ranking of every game you ever played? Now that would be intense. I don't think I could do it though because there are different things that make games great. Doing a list of even just ten, of any category, is already really difficult

I know but the restrictions make it more fun and I want to play the game as well. Plus I'm sick of putting Mass Effect and The Witcher on these damn lists all the time. Also RPGs are weird because almost every notable single player game seems to be on some level an RPG at this point. The next Mario will probably have upgradeable health bars and shit.

Main reason I couldn't rank every game I've ever played is that I've played an insane amount of games to the point where there are a bunch of games I just have 0 recollection of and even a bunch of games I have vague memories of but can't tell you what they're called or if they were any good.

Speaking of: does anyone remember a PS1 game where you played as like a white guy (possibly with crazy pointy hair?) who shot lightning out of his arm? I think it was like an action game with a top down view of the action. He might have had a robot arm to shoot the lightning, and there may have been a prison break at some point or perhaps that was the entire plot of the game.

Here's my non-PlayStation list

The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Mario World
Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Terraria (I'm considering this PC)
Street Fighter 2
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
TMNT: Turtles in Time

... I guess. I mean, after 4 or 5 it got really difficult. And for the last pick I was considering 30-40 different games for 10 minutes before I decided enough is enough and just picked something. There's so many games I really enjoyed almost equally.

Then there's also games that were amazing when they came out, like GoldenEye 007, but they don't really hold up well. It's hard to say it's not one of my favorites when I had so much fun with it, but I look at it now and it's a turd. I get so conflicted. Same with the Pokemon games where I used to love them and now I don't like them at all, so it's weird not including Red/Blue when I played them for hundreds of hours. I guess I only included games I thought still hold up and that I still have a high opinion of.

The poll today asks which 10 year dormant franchise we want back. I have two notes on the options on this poll:

1. How the hell have I never heard of this Legend of the River King? This sounds like something I would have been obsessed with. It's Harvest Moon but instead of farming you fish. So basically another game that Stardew Valley completely ruined for history but this should have been one of my all time favorites!

2. Viva Pinata has apparently been OOC for 10 years. First of all, that makes me feel kind of old. Second, have you ever met a single person who played a Viva Pinata game?

Man Alpha Protocol is a really good game once you get past the clunky "game" aspects but the boss fights are truly horrible. It reminds me of Deus Ex Human Revolution in that way, a great game whose boss fights are so horrible it nearly undermined the entire thing.

Agreed! It fits into that weird area of mediocre shooters that could've been better, like WinBack and Kill.Switch and stuff.

If you want another game in that vein that's a little newer, Binary Domain is really solid.

I think I played on normal when I beat it years ago and it was still crazy frustrating at times. I don't know if it's something I would want to play again (although I heard they improved the boss fights eventually somehow) but I still hold it in high regard.

Anyway, one last time for the people in the back: Alpha Protocol is honestly pretty great and it's on sale for $1.49. I just beat it over the course of a 3 day weekend. Steam says it took me 13 hours but it was probably more like 10 or 11 because I left it running for a long time yesterday. I would recommend playing on easy if you do get it.

I celebrated my new laptop with purchases of Alpha Protocol, Jade Empire, and Half Minute Hero: The Second Coming. I've only played Half Minute Hero so far. I don't know that I would recommend it but it's scratching an itch for me. In a weird way it reminds me of a clicker game but it's more in depth than that as there's a problem solving element to it. It's weird though, when I realized that's what it felt like it really made sense to me and explained why I liked it as I go insane over a clicker game once every 18 months or so.
