Just send some cruisers ahead at FTL so you box them in.

They chased after them in FTL. Why not send some ships a bit further ahead? Space isn't 2 dimensional, they could definitely find a way to do it.

If they travel in any direction other than straight ahead, it's a longer route.

If they travel straight towards them, it's a suicide run and everyone explodes.

Oh yeah, remember when they were still the Empire? That crack-squad of commandos that totally wasn't outfoxed by a farm boy, a petty criminal, a universal translator, a garbage can, a walking carpet and a diplomat?

FTL travel in Star Wars is different than ftl in other sci-fi. In Star Wars, they still inhabit the same physical dimension during ftl travel as regular space travel. If you want to go somewhere at ftl speeds, you have to use shipping routes so you can avoid planets, stars, or other major objects and gravity wells. In other sci-fi works, like Halo for example, you can use slipspace travel to move non-linearly. So in Halo you could simply jump ahead of other ships, but if you tried that in Star Wars you would do exactly what happened in the movie.

Then why not just do a micro jump so you come out of hyper space right on top of them?

There are literal scenes showing how annoyed they are that it's taking so long.

Given that we don't know the effect on the engines or how accurate the jump is, that could actually be way more dangerous/useless.

Why would they waste resources suicidally charging at them when they have them on the ropes, there could be other rebel activity, and they can continuously refuel whereas the rebels couldn't?

Why didn't the Death Star just blow up Yavin? That would have taken the moons out as well.

Why did the Empire not blow up an escape pod just because there were "no signs of life"?

Why did the Empire use slow, inefficient walkers that could be taken down by tow cables?

Why did the Empire only disable the hyperdrive on the Millenium Falcon but still leave the ship able to fly otherwise?

Why didn't the storm troopers on Endor use radios to tell the base about Luke and Leia, instead of hopping on speeders so they could be taken down?

Why did Luke's plan to rescue Han... hell, it's so unnecessarily convoluted and prone to fail, I don't even know where to start. Why does it even work at all?

I'm not saying you can't think of answers to these questions. You can, just like you can think of plausible in-universe answers to the issues in TLJ. But at the end of the day, almost all movies have inconsistencies like this. So just ignore the details or else think of some explanation.

You shouldn't let nitpicks like this ruin a movie for you.

I thought the big issue with FTL was that they could be tracked to wherever they went, so the Resistance had no way of losing the Order. The Order cant send a few cruisers ahead in FTL because they have no way of knowing in advance where the Resistance is going, but once they do go, the Order knows exactly where so they can follow.

Obviously a small drone hyperspeeding through something wouldnt be as damaging as a huge cruiser doing the same.

Yeah, spend billions of space bucks to expedite a single scenario that may or may not happen in which you already have the rebels on the rope, at risk of being single-handedly wiped out after their fuel runs out. But hey, who the fuck wants to wait a few hours to extinguish all your enemies in a single fell swoop when you could just as easily spend billions of dollars in suicide bots to shoot at the enemy in a desperate attempt to beat them a few seconds earlier.

Brilliant.
