Yeah, kind of. Basically all you need to do is carefully read the rules and do your best to solve the game. The roles can be complicated but the objective isn't: win. This can be harder if you roll scum/mafia because it involves lying which is more complex than earnestly trying to find things, but it isn't rocket science to jump into. Hard to master of course. Best suggestion is make sure you have the time to be invested.

"Tell me your opinion on these things."
"If there is one post you think I should read to understand your argument or why you are town, what is it?"

Basically make the people who can be more active spoon feed it to you. Odds are if they are that active they want that content seen.

During the DAY phase there is no reason whatsoever for the game to ever be autoended at 2-2-1. No one made the argument that it should be.

Have you ever considered/encountered a game where there was a participant in the game who didn't actually have a faction/win condition?

Like for example, I host a game that has TOWN and MAFIA, but then there is just neutral game overlord, let's call him...Kris...who can post in the game, and interact with the players at his leisure, but has no win condition, nor is he informed of the roles at all. Just a true 3rd party observer with a voice and is free to be honest or manipulative or whatever he pleases.

The formality is someone could fake being survivor as town,bait scum, and then win the game for town.

The argument is that if it's 2-2-1 heading into night the game is immediately over (barring any role that can block the kill, or kill scum) and both scum and survivor win. We have seen survivors win this way by helping scum at lylo before.

He's just been completely ignoring it.

I just had that role. That role sucks and should never exist.

Survivor can, they just deserve to lose if they do.

That's why it's not "over" with 2-2-1 during the day. The survivor can still throw the game.

Most fun for me is town vanilla in a community where my role matters. So Board 8 I am auto kill for scum because I am super scary but on a place that has to try to inflict harm to town via killing its power I am allowed to crack my neck and do a lot of work because I know if I force them to take my life with my play they are not being optimal in the night phase. It is the best feeling in the world to be night killed as a vanilla town because you have done your duty to the town in the only way possible at night. Although Bulletproof with no way to kill me obviously amuses me as well.

Least? Scum, really. Mostly just because there is such an intense pressure in that role normally. I love being mafia, Blade will tell you story after stories of the horrors I have visited upon town and the depths of my depravity when it comes to manipulation, but it isn't as 'fun' as being a member of town, it is more an exercise in evil.

Direct power roles and approach the game from a vanilla perspective and make it obvious, even when you're not vanilla. Mafia think they are clever for figuring this stuff out and almost without question they will be trying to kill power over not power. Just be subtle about it and you can usually avoid night kills by 'tipping your hand' so to speak unless you have a monster like me on night kill duty (my night kill selection is maybe the best asset I have ever had as scum, I never hit vanillas night 1!)

Being super active is the best way not to be lynched as scum. Your job isn't to offer why you haven't been shot, it is to play the game. This doesn't work so well for me on board 8 because I am me (as an aside, Corrik has it backwards by the way - I am handicapped on board 8 and other communities where I have a rep. I am listened to literally everywhere I play mafia because I am hyper aware of how to manipulate people, and so on board 8 I am more brazen but on other communities I lean more towards my intellect and pure thinking process and people see where I am coming from, how I play on board 8 is different to how I play on other places.) so yeah just be active and be consistent, that's the best you can do.

As independent just have fun and do your best, its a crapshoot.

Learn from your mistakes and be active, to be simple. Mafia is an endless game of improvement and you can never truly master it due to the circumstances but you can and should learn from errors in judgment. Be bold, take chances, and when the boldness doesn't pan out ask yourself why this is. Never be meek but always question yourself, just not publicly.

On a more serious note, how do you learn to stop stressing out over the fact that any mistakes you make end up hurting your team as well as you? To the surprise of no one that followed the aftermath of PW mafia, one of my biggest problems with mafia is that I have a hard time not being pissed off at myself for anything I do wrong in a team game.
