Board 8 > Bane plays the Devil May Cry series for the first time [spoilers as I go]

Alright just finished Mission 2 with Lucia, and I don't get the point of that. She works her way up to the top of the cathedral that Dante starts the game at, which as a concept is kind of neat, but I think it was to get one of the seals for the mega demon at the end, so then why wouldn't Dante just have gotten since he started there? Like the scene ends up back where Dante and Lucia meet up at the bottom of the village where an explosion occurs and they meet the old grandma....so there really was no point to Lucia's missions so far.

And the boss she fights is just one of the super easy ones Dante fights later in the game, but what's the reason for it being at this beginning section? They're demons so they can appear wherever they want I guess sure, but still super weird.

Gameplay wise she's fine given the game. Her cartwheel kick is cool, and it seems like she might have more in the air than Dante? Still not all that much but she has A combo she can stay in the air with for flying enemies, Dante didn't even really have that.

Just fought the tentacle boss again, actually went way better this time around than with Dante. I think since I wasn't as used to the game the first time, so I kind of knew what to look out for here and when to do stuff.

Just completed Mission 5, what on earth was the deal with the Evil Heart? It just flew out of the sky into Lucia randomly and then you stick it in some power hole and that's it.

At least this level, even though it's the same as Dante's, happens before Dante gets here so you see how things were set up before Dante, and then Arius is just arriving with the helicopter where with Dante he's just leaving. So that's some little details that are good for the story I guess.

Alright took a break and now I'm back with Mission 6

WOW OK

best cutscene this game has had so far, actually gives the explanation for Lucia's deal and the reveal of the assassins you fought at the end of Dante's story while fighting Arius as being clones of Lucia is pretty nifty even if it's easy. Also Atrius actually detailing out his plan is way more than anything we got in Dante's story. The thing that sucks is that this is all locked in Lucia's story, which I assume a good amount of people don't get to because they play Dante's first and see how poor the game is and say fuck Lucia and stop playing.

Just fought a giant fish, kind of an awkward fight but staying on the ceiling meant it couldn't really do much to me. Just pelt it with the Bow Gun.

Oh I found another positive point of this game: it may still be clumsy, but the swimming is definitely improved from that weird ass first person version of swimming from the first game

Went through the Phantom fight as Lucia, I gotta say every repeated fight as Lucia so far as been easier as her. I think it's because I just know the game better, or maybe I'm getting lucky.

Also the story is connecting together WAAAAAAAYYYYYYY better with Lucia. Just that scene alone that I pointed out earlier makes it so much better. It's not a masterpiece by any means mind you but it's better than what we got from Dante.

Aaaaaaaandddddd Lucia game beat. Demon Atrius first form was an alright fight, still had mostly rely on guns but there was some nifty moves he did and then you could in on him with regular attacks. His final form, however, was guns guns guns guns. Crawling back and forth spitting out blue goo, just keep shooting. Eh.

And AHA I had a feeling that con with double sided head with how it played out in Dante's story. And that ending with Lucia waiting at Dante's agency was a WAAAAAAYYYYY better ending scene than what Dante got. Also she says "Sparda did come back" so I guess they were teasing for the next game? Well we're finally gonna get that next year!

So yea I almost want to say I liked Lucia's campaign more? If only because it felt like an actual somewhat complete story, as basic as it was. Gameplay wise she had a few more tricks up her sleeve, like that bomb (called the cranky bomb which is weird but whatever) and even though I barely used it I could see some of its usefulness and I just liked how different it was. Still not great gameplay but eh.

So now I'm officially done with DMC2. There's Bloody Palace and Hard mode to get Trish, but I think I'm about tapped out. Glad I did Lucia's campaign though, it's a shame most people probably don't. Like she's not a great character by any means but I think overall she does help out the game a bit due to how bland Dante is.

Or will it be like a Trish situation between 1 and 2 where Trish went who the fuck knows where for this game (except as an unlock but you don't get any extra stuff with her right? It's just unlocking to play as her through Dante's missions?)

It would be kind of hilarious if Lucia was brought back and since so many people hate DMC2 and I bet a chunk outright skip it since every veteran says to, they'd be like "who the fuck is this?"

Just fought Cerberus, I died once on him because I'm bad but once I started to actually use the lock on more effectively I did it. Shotgun worked out better in that fight than handguns. Also I somehow got him into a state where he lunged at me and just kind of sat there and I wailed on him for like 75% of his health bar. Dunno how I lucked out on that one. Even the remaining 25% he didn't do too much. But I saw him do a lot more in the first fight on him so I dunno.

I do have to say though.....I miss the dodging from DMC2! It's so sad in this one compared to what he was doing in 2 haha

FYI: it's possible to grind style/orbs in DMC3 Gold Mode by killing a bunch of enemies and then dying before you clean out the room. You'll respawn and they'll respawn, and your collected style points & orbs will remain. As long as you save the game sometime before quitting, you'll keep it all.

Also, basic rundown for the styles:

Trickster - Different kinds of (very useful) dodges. Best all-around style, good for beginners. Very fun.
Swordmaster - Good for styling on random enemies with with different kinds of weapon moves. Excellent at building style meter, less useful in boss fights.
Gunslinger - Kind of sucks.
Royal Guard - Parry/guard based. Really good but really hard to use until you know the game well.

Oh yea i think I found a mini grind spot already, there's a pit you got dropped down when some stairs collapse, and it seems even without dying you can keep going down in the pit and clearing the enemies out

GOLD = Infinite Checkpoints with the added options of gold orb, which revives you on the spot.

YELLOW= Limited Checkpoints. You need to have yellow orbs in your possession to continue, if not - you will have to restart the mission from the beginning.

Auto combo. Same idea as what you've seen in fighting games recently, mash triangle for automatic sick moves that would usually require imputs.

Don't see why you should bother...unless it also automatically revs Nero's sword, in which case god do I wish I tried that out.

Oh man.

In Nier Automata, everything was much better after you got Wire. Sliding Dash/Flash Step make KH work. Basically, I love abilities that allow you quickly close in after powerful finishers and knockbacks.

DMC4 is gonna be my favorite game in the series because of Devil Bringer and Snatch. It's exactly what my style needed. Sure, Stinger kinda did the job in previous games, but I found it unreliable sometimes.

As a bump for this topic since I can't sleep, can I just say that Devil Trigger > Devils Never Cry

Devils Never Cry is cool and I like it, but I feel like most of the people who listen to it only listen to like, video game music exclusively so it's banking more on nostalgia. Devil Trigger feels like a more well crafted song. Also I'm quite surprised how popular Devils Never Cry is given the unclean vocals, like I'm into that shit with my music background but most people usually aren't.
