I recently found my son playing a video game called "Persona 3." I was doing house chores while he was playing it in the living room. It seemed like a child friendly and educational game at first. The characters were at a school and learning math. The next thing I know, they were shooting themselves in the head! The characters had what looked like guns and they'd put them up to their heads and shoot. I got worried, so I did some research on the game. The guns are actually "evokers" used to call upon a "persona." I'm worried that my son will one day find a gun and try this out, or try to evoke evil spirits in other ways. I learned that there is a sequel called Persona 4 where the teenagers call a "persona" by using tarot cards. This goes against the Lord. As I kept doing research, I learned that these games are a part of a bigger series called "Shin Megami Tensei." What I learned about this series is horrifying.

There are games called "Devil Children," "Devil Survivor," "Devil Summoner," and "Digital Devil Saga" that are part of this series! This got me really worried about what my son was playing. In these games you summon and fight "demons." These demons look really similar to what my son was summoning as "personas."

What can I do? I'm scared that if I take away the games, he might try preforming these things in real life and rebel. But if I don't take them away, he'll be felling into the hands of the devil! Please pray for my son!

Don't worry, Persona is fine. He should stay away from those other games you mentioned(if he does play them, he should know that he must go for the law route), but personas represent aspects of people's personality. The main character changes theirs a lot because they are trying to figure out who they are as a person. Some of them will be demonic, some will be properly righteous and godly but that is because people are complex and possess the capability to do both good and evil.

Well, you do summon demons and you can choose to go against God's will or even fight him in some of them. So it is pretty easy to see how they'd be considered Satanic.

Well, you do summon demons and you can choose to go against God's will or even fight him in some of them. So it is pretty easy to see how they'd be considered Satanic.

People can be dumb. They don't look at context and just see demons and think, EVIL. A game all about fighting off demons and doesn't involve using their powers shouldn't be considered satanic.

If this is a serious post, first off...how old is your son? That should be the first thing to consider on whether or not they should have access to it.

But overall, the game and the series as a whole is harmless and largely promotes good and has a ton of information that is factual to the world around us and can educate on multiple religions about the figures in them including the Abrahamic ones (this includes Christianity).

Depending on age some more complex themes will go right over the players head.

One important lesson in SMT as a whole is that angels and demons are two side of the same coin. But most people take that as to mean angels are demons, but conversely it can mean demons are angels too.

So technically your son is playing an angelic game. But then again, it's Persona, and it never gets as deep as that so maybe not
