Repetitive. Short. Easy. Only four.

Other than the durability system the rest of the game is fine though.

For sure

Honestly, I would have rather had real dungeons than all of the boring physics puzzle mini dungeons.

Still had tons of fun, but it got repetitive trying to get them all.

I thought they were almost the length of regular Zelda dungeons. And I liked having to manipulate the dungeons themselves.

Plus, it had 100 mini-dungeons to make up for it.

Was gonna say. In between the combat on the surface and the puzzles in the Shrines, you had all the elements of Zelda dungeons, and in a format that you could decide how you wanted to pace it.

I feel you're just upset because it wasn't presented in the package you're familiar with: Dungeon start here, here combat, here puzzle, here combat, here miniboss, puzzle, combat, puzzle, boss, Heart Container, Macguffin item.

Yeah, dungeons were one of the weakest points. It barely felt like a single dungeon altogether and the bosses were so fucking lazy. Just a bunch of Ganons.

My issue wasn't with the Divine Beasts but rather the bosses of the Divine Beasts. They were all boring. Hell, even the final fight wasn't very good.

Dungeons were one of the best parts besides how few there were (I don't mind that they are short, you don't need to make every dungeon a slog).

BOTW's Hyrule Castle is one the best dungeons in Zelda history, so many ways to do it and its thematically brilliant.

BotW was great in spite of shortcomings like that. Real dungeons wouldve made it a more lasting experience, but its a prime candidate for not aging well

Imagine if they made a sequel, perhaps a slightly smaller map size, with real full dungeons integrated into the landscape. No load screens. You find a cave in Death Mountain, walk in, and its a full fledged Fire Temple.

The only issue is items. I miss items, but you cant really have unique dungeon items without restricting freedom and climbing abilities.

I miss items but Id missing climbing and freedom too.

It was only good because every other dungeon was so lame. Compared to other Zelda dungeons it's still fairly small and straightforward, it's basically just a combat gauntlet that can be cheesed with flying or can be entered through a basement and backdoor.

Which, in and of itself isn't bad, but I feel like there should have been *more* of the castle to explore. Every time I was starting to enjoy myself, a passage was collapsed or something.

Copy/paste of some of my thoughts on BotW and how it could be better

The Sheikah technology and aesthetic as we know it should definitely not come back.

I feel like it was used as a crutch creatively. Why design thematically unique dungeons when they could all look the same and make sense from a lore standpoint? Same thing for shrines, why make them match their locations and actually be a part of the world when they could just make them all look exactly the same on the inside, with absolutely no atmosphere? Why make unique items and make the world feel cohesive and real with actual hand drawn maps or a primitive pictobox or magical spells or tools when they could instead cram all of those functions into the magical Sheikah iPad?

I think the Sheikah aesthetic largely harmed the game. I really wish it was only featured very minutely and the world was more inspired and natural instead of cold and jarring.

A lot of the changes that people want would come along with this change. Namely, themed dungeons, items, caves. Without Shrines, divine beasts, and the Slate, these changes would come about naturally.

Those are my thoughts. Without the Sheikah stuff, it could have been my favorite game of all time.

Absolutely my favorite dungeon in Zelda. Not only is it massive and full of stuff and secrets, but it's like, insanely organic to the world. It actually feels like a ruined castle, because it is one. It's fucking awesome. And the music is amazing

Breath of the Wild has that dungeon in Hyrule Castle. I think that's how all dungeons should be done in the next 3D Zelda, since it's likely going another open world game like BOTW was. The Divine Beasts weren't terrible, but they weren't special either.

The dungeons should have been like the castle, and the castle should have been larger and had more puzzles.

It never made sense to me that most of the shrines were physics puzzles, and then the dungeons became bigger physics puzzles.

If anything the dungeons should have mostly been combat focus labyrinths to make up for all of the shrine puzzles. This would have actually encouraged you to go to more shrines in order to be beefed up for the dungeons IMO.
