So a friend of mine who I work with had the dog run out when his daughter accidently left the door open. Someone found the dog and brought the dog to a vet to hold for the time being. We posted on social media if anyone had found the dog and someone reached out and said they saw the dogs on a lost and found page on Facebook. Once he arrives to the vet they tell him they won't let the 2 dogs go unless he pays $250 each for vaccines. They are fully vaccinated and up to date. They said they already gave them the vaccines and if he doesn't pay they will put the dog to sleep. Is that normal or shady bussiness.

Um that sounds shady as fuck and illegal

Literally holding an animal hostage

What can they do? They called the police and they said there is nothing they can do.

Full Pet Services 2222 Ave X. That's the name of the Vet/Grooming place. Looking at the reviews they sound pretty scummy.

unfortunately, vets holding animals hostage isn't uncommon. i've never heard of vets taking in animals without the owners consent and then giving them shots, however. you probably have a good case to sue them, or you can at least threaten to sue them and see if they cave.

In my experience many shelters/vets (especially in small towns) are like this. They fee no sympathy for people or animals but know that people will do anything to save their pets so they do shady stuff like this.

They also can totally euthanize the animal without getting in trouble so its up to you, your friend, and community to take action against the place.

Tell him to get in touch with a local news station and explain the situation to them.

i can understand a procedure being done to fix a wound. but i gotta agree with the others that some "vaccines" be 250$. vaccination in no way or form is 250$ maybe 75$ if talking high ceiling.

my vet charges about 20-30$. she does a great job with my dog (she's huge).

Honestly I don't know about what legal-based avenues you can take

But I do know that you can royally fuck this place over by contacting a lot of well known animal rights advocate groups, local community organizers, maybe even any community oriented local government workers. Basically activism.

i like this idea. put them on blast and let social media take care of it.
