I have a grey cart from 1998 and it also has the Muslim chanting.
Also, I remember in Soul Calibur 2 when I got the Mirror Shield for Link, I thought they screwed up and got the design wrong. Wasn't until I got to that part in Master Quest later that year that I learned they changed the design for similar reasons as the chanting. dioxxys posted... link? Another interesting fact about the Mirror Shield design, they thought they removed the crescent moon design from the whole game but they missed the same design present on the ceiling in Dampe's grave. That wasn't changed until the 3DS version. It's present in all versions up to and including the Virtual Console version.

The chanting was removed in version 1.2, so 1.0 and 1.1 (which would have been both gold and non-gold cartridges) have it.

I dont mind that they censored the blood, because ganondorf isn't of the human race, but the Muslim chants added to the song...it sounds barebones without the religious theme to it.
