Literally not racist. This is what happens in 2018 where everyone immediately pulls out the race card and race bait and feel the need to white knight everything: they forget to think critically and they sure as Hell dont do any research on what they are white knighting. It ends up, in this case, making a person look foolish by getting upset over nothing. I mean, come on people.

Isn't Trump from NY though?

Never remember him living in the south, so it's odd to see that slang.

Honestly, people no longer use the phrase...at least not 'commonly'. If anything, an old man might say it...I've heard a man say "You're a scholar and a gentleman" more than 3 times and that was probably enough the first time.

Already beginning to "take hold"? It's already the case, outright.

And make no mistake. While the followers might be going along with something they genuinely believe, those at the top of the leftist movement know exactly that that's the effect it's having. That's what they want to happen, so they can start bringing out actual racism and no one will care because "racism" has become meaningless.

Ignorant people eager to misconstrue doesn't make it inappropriate imo, especially not in the context of an argument happening on your run-of-the-mill political mudslinging show where people are routinely inappropriate, emotional, hysterical, disrespectful, etc. That's rather normal behavior in this context. If any of these talking heads try to play nice they just get walked on all over and taken advantage of.

I would agree to this, Because I have heard the term used before, and never thought it had any racist connotations on its own. Id be willing to accept they didn't mean anything racist by it, but they were dumb and it was a racist remark.

But at best, saying it to a black person - immediately after they called you a racist, is very poor judgement, and at least a little racist.

I mean, look at some of the policies they support?

Affirmative action? Y'kno, the law that gives minorities a bit of a step up on the work ladder... but in practice, means they're put into a position they don't yet have the experience for, and will therefore do a poor job of, which both creates a negative image of minorities in the employer's eyes, and guarantees they won't move up to any of the even-higher steps. Compare that to those who avoid taking "advantage" of such policies and instead start at the actual bottom and work their way up - and often end up very successful as a result.

This, combined with encouraging them onto welfare, is in turn designed to keep them in their low-income, minority-dominant areas... away from the rich white people who are doing this "because they care" (actually, because they want to keep them away from themself without being obviously racist).

In some countries, these people push hard for minority groups to have their own seperate polls at the elections. Officially, this is "to ensure their voice is heard" or something. In practice? Those polls are almost always landslide wins, but the general poll that the minority memebers were pulled away from are often very close calls, where that minority voice could have made the difference.

Safe spaces? Literally segregation, but telling them it's for their benefit instead of one's own.

And of course, blowing all these issues out of proportion and encouraging participation in political protests and activism over it, is just another way to keep them out of jobs, where they could earn money and thus better themself. (With the added bonus that then they can claim, "hey, employment for this group is low, better bring in more affirmative action" - rinse and repeat.)

Free education? They're almost invariably channeled into arts or sociology or other degrees that won't actually help them much in the work force - but do a great job of telling them "society won't let you succeed because of your minority status, it's nothing to do with us deliberately setting you up to fail".

Whereas the only thing the conservatives are guilty of is not directly giving a shit.

The real world disagrees that the term cotton picking is racist outside of a few race baiters. Whose actually racist? The people who dont care and never contextually say anything racist or the people who see race everywhere? Hmmmm. Ironically, the people arguing it is racist dont even know what the term cotton picking even means apparently.

so I just saw CNN talking about this. they dismissed the idea of him not knowing it was racial with "he's from the North. he knew"

they implied that it's a common saying in the south and that southerners are innocent if they just say it cause they don't realize the history. but that somehow northerners have to know what it means and only say it if they are racist. I myself thought for over 30 years that it was an innocent saying and neve thought about it's origins. and like I posted above, spiderman once said it. and he's always been used as a liberal fighter for people's rights

so unless you think Spiderman is a racist, it's not proof that someone is racist just cause they say a phrase that's just common in american culture. most people don't know what it means.
