It doesn't take a genius to see the outcome of the way a lot of Republicans are acting. Their party is becoming more and more unpopular every day owing to their platform pretty much being reduced to "call the other guys and their supporters evil".

If you're only in this topic to deny that, I suggest hitting "Topic List". For those who realise that that's the case though - your thoughts on what exactly is going through their minds when they continue the same thing that's eating away at their popularity?

theyre being Republicans and ~90% of their base are still on board and nearly half of the libertarians as well.

Just by the way the Republican party works, you know the whole "Party over country" thing, they were screwed no matter what they did once Trump won the nomination. Either they refuse to stand by him and lose the crowd that views "disloyalty" as a weakness, or they support him as much as possible and they lose everyone else. Both scenarios end with a GOP purge, so the thought was just to use Trump as a useful moron to try and get shit done with what little time they had. But Trump is too stupid to be a useful moron, and so they got nothing done.

Google still says that Hillary won the popular vote(even if its not by much) and I wouldn't exactly call it an overwhelming victory unless you mean NOT just presidency.

Also, that was awhile back. A lot has happened so this topic is relevant.

Yeah, I know, but if we're going by the masses, popular vote is the best choice to use here. in the end, the EC will screw us but the EC is made up of elects which has a lot to to do with political suicide because let's face it...people still have to vote for the elects who even vote in the EC and since both sides play party over country, that's how its ran.

Sadly, a two party system isn't working and I feel it was never going to work but what can you do? You can't expect everyone to vote third party. Most people who don't vote aren't going to vote third party...and people who DO vote won't vote third party because why? "They aren't going to win, might as well go for the winner" which isn't so bad on a single unit but when majority think that way, we're up with 2 parties.

Or maybe im not a troll and CE isnt an echo chamber like 261 and both sides bring up good points. Its actually kind of sad that CE is more informed and mature about politics than a board dedicated to politics

Huh? They got 2020 in a lock:

- 35%, maybe 40% of the population is voting for 45 UNCONDITIONALLY, and they're conveniently distributed across the electoral college.

- They will gerrymander even more

- the 2020 electoral census will somehow screw california and possible NY

- They may mass-deport minority citizens by 2020

They can't lose man, it's terrifying

My old boss voted for Johnson. I believe he would have been the safer bet but I wouldn't know. I didn't know anything about that party because even if I would like to, I, too, follow the two party system in argument and in voting because its all I know and its easier than straying from it.

I voted for Johnson knowing he'd obviously lose but thinking between him and that crazy Stein chick he was most likely to get the number of votes needed to give a third party an actual say

To be fair, both sides do that...

Trump is making a lot of stupid decisions, though.. There are a few people on the right who are competent, look at Rand Paul. The only thing I'm glad about with Trump is that everyone scrutinizes every little thing he does. Hillary would've gotten away with a ton of shady shit, but Trump can't even hide his coke drinking habits. Idk, I feel like it's good cus at least people are becoming more politically active even though some are turning to violence. Hopefully they turn around.

They don't feel like fighting the blatant prejudices and corruption right now in their party because they can't with Trump in power advertising it. They are trying to pin as much of it on him as possible and destroy as much of the country as possible while doing so. So they're are essentially fine with turning America into Nazi Germany so long as Trump gets the blame and they keep their money.

To that I would add that democrats let them take control of the narrative and define the conversation over and over.

For example, Family Reunification is a thing, and many countries have it. This is how Melania brought her parents here, for example. But the GOP decided to call it "chain migration", so now they scream "chain migration is bad!"

Instead of confronting the GOP and explaining that it's called FAMILY REUNIFICATION and that the ancestors of even hard righters like Tomi Lahren benefited from it, they say "no, family reunification is not bad!". There, they just let the GOP frame the conversation.

Another example, 45's administration blocked land ports of entry, so refugee seekers can't go through the designated points. That forces them to enter through somewhere else. This enables the GOP to call them "illegal animal ms-13 smugglers bringing ms-13 eggs (the babies)". What do the democrats do? Explain to us that the "illegal animal ms-13 smugglers and their eggs are actually good people". No, they should be explaining what the GOP did at the points of entry and calling them out for calling these people animals.

Fortunately for Republicans, the Democrats will never let go of their smug overconfidence.

You can't deport a legal citizen it's illegal.

I don't disagree.

Yet it happened, look up "operation wetback". You're also not supposed to put your own family in the cabinet (see anti-nepotism laws) or violate the emoluments clause buy 45 did it on day 1 of his tenure.

I think the current GOP believes they can do the most horrible things possible claim the democrats are worse and people will believe them. Sad thing is they are right.
