People like to pretend that people just saw him on the streets and elected him God-King or something, but the reality is that the people around him had been pulling strings for a long time. There is the Reichstag fire, which his party probably started, which he blamed on his enemies. There is the Night of the Long Knives, where he killed anyone in the party that might challenge him.
