I think the results from New York and Maryland were pretty exciting. Democrats need fresh faces more willing to push for change, not the same old guys who have been there for decades while conservatives have risen to take everything.

Also, comparing Ocasio-Cortez and other progressive newcomers to the 'alt-right' is about as disingenuous as you can get.

Not all of them, but it has more to do with there being no real comparison between a platform that includes raising the minimum wage, ending mass incarceration, and universal health care, and one that includes banning people from the country on the bases of religion, nationality, or ethnicity, and having neo-nazis and klan members chanting that they won't be replaced.

and they will win their general elections

and probably will still cooperate with the party in any initiative to resist republicans

so your suggestion that it's a loss to the party overall is nonsensical

it's a loss to party leadership in terms of control over the platform, not to the party as a whole

Centrists and the DCCC won much more than they lost last night. The only other notable lefty win was Jealous in MD, but gubernatorial races are much less meaningful for national politics

Democrats are still too far right for most liberal voters who actually want meaningful change that'll benefit the nation and people within. That strategy decades ago of Republicans infiltrating the democratic party and shifting them right as the republican party itself pulled further right paid off. And with all the gerrymandering that's allowed as long as it isn't explicitly for racist purposes, there'll be millions more votes for democrats this fall and they'll still probably not get a revolution. And of course there'll be plenty more terrible supreme court verdicts because Republicans stole a chair through the most gutless ethics violations they could manage.

Don't worry though, the rich will get richer and everyone else will get poorer and the rich will have enough voting power to keep Republicans in power and they'll keep minorities oppressed, and the poor will cheer because they worship some deity who shouldn't be allowed to be invoked when creating laws.

By and large, the (older) white population votes Republican because of social conservatism and racial pandering, not because someone accused their candidate of being in bed with corporations.
