Me and my wife are enjoying the hell out of co-oping it. We play every chance we get; in fact, just finished up about 3 hours of play just a few minutes ago.

No. We each have our own copy of the game for our PCs. Cost us like $20, thanks to selling a handful of games we were done with.

It isn't as replayable IMO.

The first time through I thought it was great.

The second time through it seems way too easy and the story missions bring everything to a grinding halt that just isn't as fun.

Also the story was shit, and that's saying something since we're talking about Far Cry.

I really really liked Hours of Darkness though. I really wish they'd just full blown embrace the over the top and campiness instead of trying to do the semi serious stuff.

You're trash

Sure it had some technical flaws but it was a very inspired game and no game afterward has been able to capture the things it did with narrative and the aliveness of the world.

I loved Far Cry 2, but I also played the modded version that fixed a lot of problems.

I still think Far Cry needs to stop trying to be "serious". There's a reason everyone loves Blood Dragon. You don't need to be as goofy as Blood Dragon, but honestly the perfect Far Cry to me would basically be a hybrid Predator/Commando rip off.

Far Cry 2 was the last one with a serious tone. 3-5 went really odd directions with eccentric enemies. 2's setting was very grounded and believable.

Serious isn't the right word I guess. It's more like Far Cry 3, 4 and 5 try to be deep or feel like they're trying to have some sort of weird message to the story by the end and it always comes off half assed and feeling out of place. Far Cry 3 and 4 a lot less than Far Cry 5 though. Far Cry 5 really feels like there is a huge dichotomy between the main story writer and the side quest writer.

I guess serious isn't exactly the correct word, but I'm mostly talking about that weird thing where they try to play it off as if there is some meaning or message to the story at the end which really flies in the face of everything you've done and the game itself.

It's done halfway decent as a twist in Far Cry 3. In Far Cry 4 it just feels kind of tacked on but it still wasn't that bad

But in Far Cry 5 it just comes off as really stupid. The actual story presented through the gameplay (notes, dialogue, side missoins, etc. etc.) present Joseph and his cult as horrible horrible people. They're literally torturing/brainwashing/killing anything they come across. They even have Joseph reveal that he murdered his baby because "God" told him to do it. They're all awful, yet when you get to the end it turns out Joseph was *right* to do all this and *you* were the bad guy because apparently you trying to stop atrocities against your fellow man instigated the end of the world because of prophecy or God willing it or what the fuck ever.

But yeah, I just thought the main story was really weird and awful for trying to be something different from the rest of the game. It was like I'd be having a lot of fun doing goofy over the top stuff, then I'd get captured and everything would get moody and serious and not fun.

I liked the more serious tone of 2 as well. I also liked that the game took every opportunity to remind you that you aren't shit. Every game from 3 on has been a power fantasy that makes you feel near invincible by the end. 2 gave you malaria and jammed your weapons in the middle of a firefight. A lot of people didn't like that stuff, and understandably so, but I thought it was a brilliant way of introducing variables into the combat that you couldn't necessarily plan for.

Yeah, I think this is the reason that I don't enjoy Far Cry 4 and 5 as much by the time I get to the end cause they give you this power fantasy, but then try to make you feel bad for it.

I love the games as I play them though, I actually *really* loved Far Cry 2 despite my complaints of "seriousness" but it probably was because it felt consistent until the end.

Either that or I'm just a scatterbrain, who knows?

5 is way more intense than 2. It's a pretty fun experience imo but there is a lot of non-stop action at times that gets redundant.

I don't know why the hell this is so hard to get right. Especially with how free form the entire campaign was.

It can be if you intentionally make it so.

But like, unless I'm forgetting something Far Cry 2 didn't have a super easy mode weapon like the M60 with Optic.

Where as every fucking time I was discovered in Far Cry 2 it was a huuuuge oh fuck moment.

They just have all started to feel like less impressive far cry 3 clones.

It's the same exact thing just in an area not nearly as interesting, and with less interesting characters.

Still enjoyed them all though.

Its post-game is dead (Ubisoft still won't do NG+) and the plot contrivances are effing terrible. However, since I'm from Montana, it was still pretty enjoyable overall. :P

2 was utter shit. Fixing a car by turning a socket wrench on a radiator? Fucking stupid. Clear out a checkpoint of all enemies, return 2 minutes later, all enemies are back.
