https://www.newyorker.com/news/our-columnists/in-america-naturalized-citizens-no-longer-have-an-assumption-of-permanence

Any naturalized CEmen here? How do you feel about this? Do people simply need to get the hint and flee?

This feels straight out of a Wolfenstein: The New Order plot line :(

I think that might screw up my parents. They had issues filling out the forms because of the language barrier so our last name is a typo....

Arent they going after people who had lied during their application process? People like Melania Trump?

Not necessarily lied. If your name is (chinese characters here) and it can be translated into Cung Le or Cung Lee or Cung Li, and in good faith you're Cung Le and Cung Li, bye bye.

If you forgot to put in your application that Johnny in 2nd grade used to call you "fucknuts" and stopped in 3rd grade, bye bye for you.

Melanoma will be fine. Because, law and order are a thing of the past.

If Melania decided to divorce him, that would surely change. Maybe that's why she won't leave despite being miserable. He's basically holding her hostage.

Historically, denaturalization has been an exceedingly rare occurrence, for good reason: by the time a person is naturalized, she has lived in this country for a number of years and has passed the hurdles of obtaining entry, legal permanent residency, and, finally, citizenship. The conceit of naturalization is that it makes an immigrant not only equal to natural-born citizens but indistinguishable from them. So denaturalization, much like the process of stripping a natural-born American of citizenship, has been an extraordinary procedure reserved for very serious cases, mostly those of war criminals.

Which war criminals has the U.S. revoked citizenship?

Trump certainly wouldn't revoke those of Nazis. He thinks they're fine people.

Like most things associated with Trump. Including his Mar A Lago Secret Service scam where he makes literally millions in profit off the American taxpayers.

A bunch of Nazis who took part in WWII then took refuge in America.

My wife is a naturalized US citizen and this kind of terrifies me tbh. It's also kind of ridiculous, they make it prohibitively expensive for a US citizen to formally renounce citizenship and yet they're going to just take away someone's naturalization status (that also probably cost a ton of money, I know that it did in our case)?

Their job should be to conduct the necessary investigations BEFORE giving them citizenship.

It beats the purpose of having people become citizens doesn't it? They're now no safer than someone with a visa?

I suspect they will only go after the brown people though
