You're confusing intelligence with knowledge. Theres really no way to boost your iq, it is what it is.

Naw, IQ does seem to go up with education. Potentially a boost of 20 points for just getting an undergrad degree lol.

I would say your IQ can't be 160 for saying this but then again IQ is stupid anyway. How can you say this? The brain can change and learn and adopt new skills. You can learn a bunch of math and play brain games and stuff and I'm sure it will help in your pattern recognition.

What a dumb thing to say.

Just cause you say so doesn't make it true. If there were iq boosting tricks everyone would be doing them. Having little mental tricks to remember things is not increasing your iq.

I think if you wanted to you could hammer away at learning the "language" of pattern-based tests. But no one is going to sit there and do that stuff for thousands of hours. I think you could really hammer in these sorts of abilities if you wanted to no-life it up. It's just practice, practice, practice. I'm doing it with piano/sight reading music. I don't see why it can't apply to like little boxes with colors in them and noticing how the colors are moving around. Recognizing space is what you do in sight reading music. Eventually you get used to all the different shapes of chords and their distances on the staves from one to the next and can move your hands to the corresponding keys without even looking. I don't see how this stuff can't be developed.

Perhaps it's harder to develop a lot later. And nurture probably plays a big role. For instance, sticking with the music theme, a lot of musicians out there think playing complex music like jazz around a baby gives him a greater chance to develop perfect pitch. That's really rare even for musicians, but they can get relative pitch after a while, which is knowing the distance between pitches and being able to call out a note so long as they know the first note's name (but perfect pitch requires no reference). I digress...basically...I think you can probably get really good at IQ stuff but being in the zone for this as a baby is probably gonna put you into the stratosphere. These high IQ kids most likely developed in a setting that developed pattern recognition in a way that is useful to society or easily transferrable to academic demands. You can always learn the stuff. How many people really try? And why would they?

Also it's way easier to have a high IQ when you're young.

"Gifted" programs recruit at over 130 IQ, but the people are tested when they're in first grade or so. Everyone who was in my "gifted" program is surely not a genius, and academic success is more likely attributed to the fact that we were sequestered and told we're the smart kids...

Truly. People can be smart and more depressed as a result or not fit in. So they become a bouncer at a bar (lol). Or they can't get laid even though they're smart af. Not so smart I guess right? There are trade offs. Being smart isn't the best if by best we mean most useful for society. What other metric would there be besides what's good for society?

I could come up with all sorts of great ideas but if I just sit in my bed all day then who gives a shit. But I think self improvement could be a metric now that I think about it some more. Is someone smart if they can learn fast and acquire new skills quickly?

All you gotta do is think...what does IQ correlate with...

higher grades?
more money?

I could have applied late to a master's of public health but i am literally taking the year off to work in some factory checking ziplock bags for holes just so i can get a piano and music equipment to have a creative outlet so that I don't go mad. Money isn't everything. Neither is family or grades or any of that shit. I'm frail. I'm gonna die. The world's big af. I don't wanna do what THEY wanna do.

The meta analysis was literally on study designs meant to tease that apart...

Good to see you can read a sentence or two of an abstract though. That high IQ doing you well.

Often yes but that's not the point. You read the sentence at the beginning of the abstract that belabors the issue with IQ correlations with educational attainment. Their meta analysis did not examine IQ correlations with educational attainment.
