49 y/o Glen Pridgen, a father from Georgia says the law needs to change after he was BLOCKED from bringing his 16 y/o Autistic daughter home after he found out she ran away with a 44 y/o MAN!!

The Atlanta father said he spent several days trying to find his daughter, Mary, after he reported her missing but only to find out she ran away with a 44 y/o New York man named Michael Whitlatch!!

He said Mary's friends had told him that she was in a relationship with an old man, something he had no idea about.

He believes that his daughter was groomed as she has Asperger Syndrome, a high functioning form of autism and said "I believe he looks for vulnerable people, especially girls"

Glen thinks Michael had met Mary at a meet up for young adults with Aspergers since Mary is the LEADER of one of those meetings that Michael attended

He found out Mary had flew the coop with Michael and when he tried to take her back home, Georgia law stopped him from doing so because state law said the Age of Consent was 16!!

He posted his situation to FB asking friends and family for help and said "The purpose is to solicit help from my friends and contacts to try and find my daughter and bring her home safely. The only thing we are asking for right now is prayers and help you can provide as to her whereabouts..she was last seen with a local film producer named Michael Whitlatch, a 44 y/o man"

Michael had also bought Mary an ENGAGEMENT RING already worth 6000 smackers!!

Glen then said "This is called grooming my friends. When he was confronted via phone by the police, he said that he coudln't be arrested because what he's done isn't illegal. He has gone dark since the call"

Mary eventually called back her father and went home with him but Glen is still outraged over the AOC laws and said it needs to change who said "It shocks me that a 44 y/o man can, let's just call it what it is, "groom" a 16 y/o with Aspergers and it not be a crime"

MIchael cannot face felony charges even if he did knew Mary was only 16 but could face misdemeanor charges of obstruction of interference with custody if he knew police were looking for the girl and didn't say anything.

If she really is high functioning au****, then she's well aware of what's going on. It's still creepy as fuck, but this shouldn't be treated any differently than the average 1x teen who does the same shit.

To be fair, without knowing anything about her, you can't really tell she is 16 by the pictures. That said, a 16 dating a 44 is kind of messed up. At most she should be allowed to date someone 22/23, before she hits 18, then she can date whoever she wants.

Yeah, this isn't a bad idea. And by the same token, doing so could allow the minimum age to be made a bit younger, to avoid criminalising those who do it anyway (while making the range very tight to prevent older people taking advantage). Maybe something like max 1 year gap if the younger person is 12-13, 2 years if they're 14-15, 5 years if they're 16-17, and no limit if they're 18+.

An interesting idea. But why the big jump from a 2 year gap to a 5 year gap?

Also the "gap" needs to be more clear that it's an upper limit and that lower limit is still defined by whether or not you're in the upper limit of the other person.

For example, 13 is within the "5 year gap" of 16, but 16 is not within the "2 year gap" of 13, so 13 and 16 couldn't do stuff together.

(Edit: re-read your post and see you already addressed this by saying "younger person")

But yeah... if I were to just arbitrarily decide gaps, it would be something like...
13 could be with someone up to 1 year older
14 2 years older
15 3 years older
16 4 years older
17 5 years older
18+ no upper limit

It's like your system but more granular.

Now take a moment to realize what you're essentially advocating for.

What am I advocating? It's just something to consider. Lots of women plan on having kids after 25. It's not even a safe bet when they're 20-25 yrs old.

In the modern day I gotta say it's really something important for couples to consider. If you love each other, by all means have those children earlier to hedge your bets on misery and relationship breaking calamities.
