As a 25 year-old, I'm okay dating down to 21. I don't want to deal with someone who can't get a drink at the damn bar.
As for dating up, I dunno, I'd say like 28. Seems like most people above that want to settle down and have kids, and I just don't want that. Does it really matter though? It's not really an exact science, 16 and <14 y/os have no business dating, 20 and <16 y/os don't have any business dating, 25 and <18 y/os don't have any business dating, 30 and >20 y/os don't have any business dating, 40 and <30 y/os don't have any business dating etc

I feel that age gap is more relevant when both people are under 35-40. The older you both are, the less it matters. Admittedly, I still think it's a bit unconventional for a 40 year old to be dating a 70 year old---but I'd think it'd be even more weird for a 40 year old to be dating an 18 or 21 year old.
If you're in your 20s/30s, you should be dating someone in their 20s/30s unless you're in your late 20s/30s then it could be acceptable to move up a decade bracket. I think a big age gap can work if you are both established in jobs. A 35 year old and a 25 year old dating could work if you both are decently in career paths. But a 25 year old that hasnt got their shit straight is going to be a problem if the 35 year old has a good career or vice versa.

Depends on what age you are. When you're 18, you want to go 16-19. The dating pool opens up as you grow older. Shit, 10 years is a perfectly acceptable age gap when you're in your 30s.

My age gap limit is actually lower than the age gap in my current relationship. To me, there are caveats based on the age gap dictated by circumstances. Like, I started dating my current girlfriend when she was a post-doc in her second year and I was a first year grad student. We were roughly nine years apart, but basically as close as we could be given the circumstances. Whereas I would judge a friend (or myself) for picking up someone nine years older at a bar or though online dating for a long term relationship.

I'm 28 and I wouldn't want to actually date a 21 year old. Hook up with yes but they're so immature at that age. Probably wouldn't date down further than 24-25 at this point. Some couples can work around age gaps. Aspects of someone's behavior and understanding are not always determined by their age.
