What is this game like and is the PS4 version of it good? I think the nearest game store to me has a used copy, but all I know about the game is the genre and the fact that I've heard people say they like it on the rare occasions I've seen it mentioned

That's because they are ARPGs

PC and Switch are broken. PS4 seems fine

The PS4 version is what you want to get. It's almost the same as the one on the Vita but the Vita version took off the extra dungon. I haven't heard anything about the Switch version yet.

Switch version is not broken.
Gfxwhores and framequeens just obsess over a pixel here and a 29fps there.
The game is great by the way, but I think it has the right to be; the rest of the series is really good too. This is just the first non-remake on a console since super nintendo so theres a lot to take advantage of.

Switch version is the PS4 version with all the DLC and 30fps instead of 60fps

Wanna get it but the Switch version looks awful. All the shimmering and low resolution textures would bother the absolute shit out of me. Might pick the PS4 version up from the bargain bin eventually.

I've never played any of them. Saw the trailer and it looks interesting. As an ARPG, how does it compare to Star Ocean, Kingdom Hearts, Tales of, etc?

It's sort of like a faster Kingdom Hearts

Hm. How's the mechanics outside of fighting? Any crafting or side games/quests? Is it easy to become OP?

Yes there are stuff you can craft, yes there are mini games (fishing, tower defense, etc.) and yes there are ways to grind to make yourself ridiculously overpowered

Ps4 V is the way to go. the combat speed demands the best framerate possible, the DLC you miss out on is some laughable costumes that for whatever stupid reason were omitted from PS4 even tho they were on the Vita

The side quests are very good. Since you're wrecked on a mysterious island and most of the other passengers are missing, every time you find someone they add to your base. If you find a blacksmith, suddenly you get the ability to forge better weapons. Every person you save also gives you sidequests that either expand their part of the base or add something new.

Basically the sidequests feel worthwhile because they expand your options. There's also defense missions that are completely optional. I like upgrading the traps and having the entire base help fight, so I tend to do them. There's no downside to just focusing on exploring the island though.

It can be pretty easy to become OP against standard enemies, but you can raise or lower the difficulty freely to make it more fair. It also depends on where in the island you are. There's a crap ton of bosses in the game, and those at least will always put up a fight even if you leave it on normal the whole game.
