It's the Not-Red Dead Redemption western game that came out before Red Dead Redemption. It was made by Neversoft, the same guys that did the good Tony Hawk games.

I didn't get far with it, but I think it was open world. It definitely was better than Red Dead Revolver.

It's small, fairly arcadey, and interaction with the world is pretty minimal even though there are some side activities. Still, it offered the most realized Western game when it launched and did an admirable job. It was a stop in the path to Red Dead Redemption, which is the definitive Western. None other can compare.

As others have alluded to, the only reason to ever return to GUN is for curiosity's sake. It's been effectively outclassed, and will be so doubly again when RDR2 releases later this year.
