Yes women initiate divorce more often. That isnt to say that men arent equally unhappy in the marriage. They just worry more about losing out in the divorce, so they stay. Women also tend to have a stronger support group. Men keep to themselves a lot. So it can be scary to walk away from a marriage with no one having your back.

Uh, yeah. Women can be extremely fickle, and get bored in a marriage. Men tend to reach a point of contentment, and not even know that their wife has gotten bored because they have stopped communicating. Before you know it, the relationship is already over, just waiting for her to pull the plug.

This is misleading. It was talking specifically about physical health. It says nothing about any other aspect, when particularly people are talking about economic benefit when this discussion comes up.

Women get to steal a lifetime's worth of a man's assets, so obviously it would make sense for them to initiate stuff.

things would probably be a bit more balanced if divorce was actually fair (ie men nowadays prefer to just leave the chick when shes pregnant and let some beta cuck handle the single mother).

men in the usa should never get married, you can either stay unhappy with your items or walk away and lose half your stuff. but if you arent married you can just tell the woman to piss off unless you have kids or live in a crap state that has those living fake married laws where she can get your stuff if you have lived together for a certain amount of time.

I think it turns out that men actually fair a lot better than women after a divorce for many reasons. Things like it's easier for men to date at older ages, they often have a good career to fall back on, do not often have to take custody of the kids, etc.

A lot of men are obliviously codependent. They don't know how to do a lot of basic household tasks like cooking and cleaning and have no idea how they will manage if they return to being single. A lot of men don't survive long as widowers for this reason.

Hmm. I wonder big of a gap in individual before alimony is seen as being needed.

Like, I can understand a situation where they both agreed one of them would stay home and not work. So much ya, alimony can make sense to me for sure.

But apart from that, unless there's this huge gap, will there really be a big alimony payments?

I haven't done any research on this stuff but it always seemed like fear mongering to me since most people aren't making huge paychecks.

If kids are involved, I agree that's probably a whole different situation

I think part of it is that women really do have more limited dating windows than men generally. That and biological clocks if they want a second stab at a family. If a woman is in her late 20s or 30s and feels like their marriage isnt perfect, I could see a want to just hurry and blow things up so they can insert themselves back in the dating pool ASAP. Compare to men, who can at least technically start a new family in their 50s/60s.

Yes. Courts will almost always award alimony / child support to men if the women make the majority of the income or lose full custody but that scenario rarely happens in the first place because

1) women seek out men who are more financially successful than they are
And
2) men usually do not even ask for custody. If they do, they win about 50% of the time.

Its not being fickle. Men forget to keep dating throughout the marriage. They stop trying and just take things for granted. The wife begs and pleads all marriage to get more from them on an emotional level. Then they get fed up and leave. The men act like they never saw it coming.

From the statistics I saw, it doesnt seem gap is too big between which gender cheats more in a marriage, both fall within the 50-60% range

Having been in several long term relationships and a marriage... Yeah no shit in average men benefit more.

I realize that in many households the man may be the larger breadwinner. But so much of keeping the house running all day every day falls to the wife in most marriages. And it's a ton of quality of life improvement things. Like buying better ingredients, cooking better food, doing more daily housework, handling more household errands, keeping track of the house social calendar (events, appointments, birthdays, etc.), keeping the house in better order' making sure you're flying on clean sheets and eating off of clean plates, etc. For couples with children, the lion's share of childcare duties is taken by the mother. And that also goes for working wives.

All that goes away without the partner. What does a wife lose? Usually a lot of emotional labor and possibly some financial stability. I lost money in my divorce and got sanity back. Sometimes being single is worth not picking up the slack for clueless or downright lazy partners. And gosh there are so many of those.
