Open borders was actually how things were for most of America's history. Closed borders began in the 20th century.

ICE cleans up after CBP by not only capturing illegals within our borders but also identifies and remedies border vulnerabilities that the CBP missed as well as other vulnerabilities that illegals take advantage of when they arrive. So while CBP is responsible for catching illegal border crossings as they happen, ICE fills in the gaps in patrols and surveillance of the border, captures those that got in through those gaps, and creates new measures to disincentivize them coming here in the first place by targeting businesses known to hire illegals, patrolling routes that illegals and traffickers often use and sweeping through cities and organizations known to harbor them.

People only want to abolish ICE because they do their job. Democrats (or at least their weekend protesters) want open border at this point.

Trump signed the EO to stop separating families, but that was not enough. They want anyone crossing the border with a child to be allowed to enter.

That's one of my criticisms of him; he keeps trying to placate the left but it never works out in his favor.

His polls aren't going down, most people want border security.

its no surprise given how extreme the right has pushed people on this issue. eventually everyone saying "lets deport illegals but can we do this too" and getting shouted down by the right have fled and been pushed to full "open borders now"

Only 35% approve of the way Trump is handling immigration, down from 40% in March, and 59% disapprove, up from 55%. Disapproval is highest among Democrats, liberals, those who disapprove of the job Trump is doing and nonwhite residents.

Immigration is one of the issues where Americans rate the President the poorest, with his approval on the economy at 49% and on foreign affairs and foreign trade tied at 39%, and only a third of people approving how he is handling health care policy. Out of these, immigration is the second lowest, next to health care, an issue where Democrats have historically had an advantage in polling.

Anyways the idea of a collectivist border is communist. Border should be opened and labor should be able to freely move.

I support the free market so in a perfect world yes, I'm not a communist.

For today? Just make it extremely easy to get work permits until we can end the welfare state and make property rights stronger.

What jobs are they taking from you?

They're not. Illegal immigration is almost always jobs that no one wants, above minimum wage and they come when there is a strong economy and excess jobs. Why? Because they fill a need not being met in the market.
