10. Including sales tax on the shelf price is something we need to do. It'll add a 'market' mechanism to local taxes.
9. Yeah, and? 8. Yeah, and? 7. Okay, you've got a point here. Saltwater taffy is pure bliss, though. 6. Get a Brita filter, dammit. Tap water is free in Europe? 5. Too bad. 4. As an American, my main two gripes are:
1) The sales tax point. I live in a state with no sales tax. On the map it showed in the video, it had a few states with a 0% sales tax. Here the sales tax isn't even on the books. It doesn't exist. So it's not a 0% sales tax technically, but rather the tax doesn't even exist to begin with. It's kind of a small point but whatever. 2) Vacation days. While the US does not have any federal laws requiring paid vacation, that does not mean that no Americans get paid vacation. The video didn't say that Americans get zero paid vacation specifically, but I just want to point this out because it's a common misconception people seem to have. As for people in this thread complaining about the driving, just look at a population density map and it will explain everything, along with the fact that many US cities were built up after the invention of the car. In older eastern cities like NYC and Boston you can definitely see how in the older areas of the city it's setup totally differently, in a way that seems much more reminiscent of a European city. Finally, if you look in the comments, there's a lot of people pointing out BS in the video about stuff like no ice in drinks. --- I may not go down in history, but I will go down on your sister. ... I'd much rather have a universal healthcare system in which people didn't receive healthcare from their employers. This is one of the biggest problems in America. Asking why should someone pay for your healthcare is crazy af nowadays. Haven't you people had enough time to think about this? You're paying for your own healthcare essentially, over time, until you get old and continually need what you paid into. It's like asking why drive a car with a seatbelt, or ride a motorcycle with a helmet. The answer is obvious...because you can't predict the future. Something could happen to you at anytime. The US can afford this. The truth is that, because people on the left don't vote as much as the people on the right, the politics have failed to keep up with the culture, severely limiting freedoms yearned for, and thus happiness.
We have a pandemic in this country right now, where people really want to trust the snake oil salesman. This is the 21st century though. The snake oil salesman shouldn't have a job, but people want to keep giving the rich guy more money, even though it costs a fraction of 1 percent of a fat cat's income to pay the bare minimum of bills necessary to sustain a baseline life in America, compared to most American's using an overwhelming majority of their income to keep up. So why are we so hard for these rich people who don't care about us? Because you believe you will be rich? Take a stats course. You people underestimate how much luck factors into millionaire-level success. ... Copied to Clipboard!

That's a good idea. I think everyone should have a car too. One day we'll get there. Why you should buy my shoes is obvious. Because there's shit on the ground that could hurt me and in this time period, it's pretty easy to come by shoes and I think we're acclimated to a certain level of comfort. However, I think what's most important here is that you could pay for my shoes, car, and healthcare, all while paying LESS in taxes if people just voted for someone rational who will tax rich people more.

No I'm just progressive. A lot of countries in Europe have much better policies like socialized daycare, a year of maternity leave, 6 hour work days, etc. Your problem is that your expectation for what policy should be is based on what's normal; and what's normal to you is based on what is happening in America locally, instead of what you think is actually best for people's well-being. You think what should be is just what is already happening...as if we're at the peak of advancement and there is no more work to do to sculpt civilization. People are stupid. We have a lot to do.
