I know it's called ice cream. Telling me that it's called ice cream is entirely unhelpful. I was asking what it's called when you want to make the distinction between hard ice cream and soft serve ice cream.


it is not unhelpful because it's just "ice cream"

it's not soft serve, that's called "soft serve"

that is the distinction.

Think of it as making a material then modifying that material and giving that its own name. Soft serve just has a different amount of milk fat and is stored at a different temperature than regular ice cream. It's simply a modification to regular ice cream.
