Why are you talking about multi-vehicle collisions in a topic about pedestrian-vehicle collisons

The rising tide of pedestrian deaths is primarily an urban plague that kills minorities at a disproportionate rate.

jesus fucking christ. apparently suvs are racist now too! guess its time for blm to start protesting suv makers right??

Nobody is saying that you dolt. It's useful to see what population of people is most affected to figure out ways to combat it. Do you also bitch when medical science says blacks are at higher risk for hypertension? "Duurrr the liberlols think hypertension is racist"

It isnt like these SUVs are thirty feet tall or something. People not paying attention and fucking around on their phones while speeding kills people

he's right. gotta have 100% attention during driving. would prevent some deaths to pedestrians but not the ones who bolt out in front of traffic.

though the laws aren't harsh enough for cell phone users or texter's those increase deaths.

they control for this and still find a disparity, though

e.g., blacks are 14% of the urban population but 20% of vehicular deaths

the real answer is black people are more likely to be pedestrians because theyre more likely to be poor

It clearly says drunk jaywalking is the main cause for such deaths. Why exactly is this the car manufacturers problem?

I can honestly say that I dont care about these people. If youre a grown man and cant figure out how to cross a street - you deserve what you get.

SUVs are more dangerous generally speaking, I read that it's better for children to get hit by SUVs/vans because their front is flatter so it's like getting hit by a wall, whereas when a kid gets hit by a sedan it's like a giant baseball bat that smacks them in the neck/head.

That was from some random drivers ed VHS though so it's probably outdated

enforces, yes, makes, sorta

it is usually state law and localities are allowed to make them more restrictive, but usually not less restrictive AFAIK

Many who died were males, were jaywalking or had alcohol in their systems on multilane roads in urban areas at night. Some might have been distracted, just as vehicle drivers could have been, by texting or talking on cellphones, although data is lacking to quantify distraction.

Tis not a car problem but a stupid people problem.

You should look into how cars were adapted into society. The automotive industry had to almost indoctrinate people into accepting how useful they were.

99.9% of the people who own SUVs dont need them and never use the extra space.

My Subaru Outback is classified as a station wagon, but it is just as capable as the other oversized SUVs (which should be forced to park in the WAY back of parking lots).

We need the leg room and I have kids.

Most people who buy them have two or three kids rattling around in a vast backseat. Youre getting less than 10mph. Just admit that you made a bad buy.

Less than 10MPG? My lifted and heavy Jeep TJ gets 18MPG... there is no way a 'modern' SUV gets 10MPG.

Anyway I hate SUVs for the simple reason that whenever I go to the store I always end up wedged between two SUVs that I can't f***ing see around. Get those massive pieces of s*** off the road!!!

there hasn't been a 80% increase in stupid people, but there has been an 80% increase in pedestrian deaths

Jaywalking - people in a rush or whatever to use crosswalks and wait for light.
Drunk - people drinking
Playing Candy Crush or Pokemon Go - people too busy looking at screen then around
All people problems.
All avoidable by either waiting for light or getting a Taxi/Uber.
