The spiders outside my windows literally built like a couple of giant webs that cover my window like one of those nets on screen doors. 2-3 web formations on the corners of each window.

I can literally leave my window open to get some outside air (with no ac it gets stuffy as hell with the windows closed) and not have to fear bugs entering at all!

I can literally see the insects stuck to the web. Little knat looking things and flies and I'm hoping mosquitoes as well.

Honestly, science should invent communication possibilities with spiders. I'd like to thank them and maybe bring them a gift for making me feel safe and not have to worry about insects buzzing about my room. Especially at night when they're most likely to come out and when I'm most tired and just want to sleep, not deal with them.

Thumbs up spider pal!

Nah I'd rather thank that user who was really into spiders on here. I remember he'd post pictures and have some pretty informative answers about spider related questions and even species. Shame he left, I forget what his username was.

Nah you'd rather not thank the guy but thank him.

On topic we have ant problems every summer at my house some years worse than others. This is the first year they found a way through the walls into my room. Well they were getting in a corner under my PC and some spiders built a web right there and haven't seen an ant since other than when I look in their webs.

I'm on a high floor so thankfully no ants yet (fingers crossed) but I did see a silverfish in the bathroom a couple of nights ago during my midnight bladder run to the toilet, was quite unpleasant. Too bad those can't be caught on the web and eaten by spiders.

There was a spider in the bathroom at my old office and sometimes there were ants too. One time, I injured an ant and dropped it onto the spider web to give the spider a free meal.

In my mo, this is how we build the perfect world. Spiders working in conjunction with humans, eating up all those vile insects, namely the mosquitoes and the flies in terms of most frequent. What a wonderful world that would be.

you're thanking the spiders by attracting insects into your lit-up room so they reap the rewards of building a web across the opening :D

also yeah i'm the old-timey spider guy, though i don't post as many pictures since i no longer have a spider room and especially since now i live in a dang city

Coolio!

One of the smaller spiders went in the room, I'm assuming because it's so hot, or maybe it's just curious. Should I leave it be and it will be fine?

No. They are just smart on where to place them.

One of the spiders entered my room through the window and now is on the ceiling literally right above my bed (first thing I saw when I woke up in the morning)

Should I be worried? It's just chilling there but I don't know why it doesn't want to go back to its web with all the snacks. Unless it was bullied by the spiders? Do they have that kinda structure?

never been bit!

heya, i closed that very old account during a liberal ragequit tbh. then i came back with a spider-name because duh

i don't know that any spiders eat ticks, but i wouldn't be surprised if some obscure ones do.

i've seen a wolf spider grab a harvestman/daddy-long-leg/opilionid and then release it almost immediately. maybe arachnids aren't super tasty.

the wolf spider must have known that the daddy long legs was super poisonous

Oh is that why they come in? From the cold? Yeah that I could believe. Also worried about birthing lots of baby spiders but I'm gonna make a deal with this one. As long as it doesn't come near me on the bed when I'm trying to sleep and takes care of any and all insects, I'll let it live. But if it crosses that bed threshold... I'm sorry, but I'm just not comfortable with anything invading my personal space.

that's the thing - they're not. they don't produce venom, period. they're mostly scavengers that don't really have defense mechanisms other than being able to drop limbs easily to get away.

& they're really cute. the wolf spider probably noticed

Well the daddy long legs most people consider aren't really spiders at all, they only have one body segment. Cellar spiders are commonly reffered to as daddy long legs too. But the REAL daddy long legs is in the tropics

They'd make amazing pets if they could be domesticated like some other animals. I get that they look 'weird', but they are an absolute godsend for most people.

It's like that with most 'weird' animals though; Crows and Ravens are super intelligent and even wild ones can bring gifts to people they like (not to mention they mean less dead animal carcasses around). Snakes are reviled by people, but eat disease carrying vermin and generally make a massive effort to avoid humans.

I've always felt a ton of sympathy for creatures like that.

That's why I said 'like other animals'. I know people do have them as pets, but I don't believe they can be trained or bonded with the same way as, say, a cat or a dog.
