Are people saying that even if they were rich and paid off their homes and bought all of the expensive things, they still wouldn't be happy?

Having lots of money sucks because you always get to the point where it's like "What now? What's even the point of living?"

Life is pretty much about distracting yourself enough to get through every day, and the "struggle" of life is a big part of that. Take away the struggle, and you have way too much time to reflect on how shitty the world is and how nothing you do really matters. Depression and nihilism galore.

Like with tons of money you can only buy and play with so many toys, travel so much, etc. It's gonna get old after a while. Many people turn to drugs for their distraction, but that's playing a dangerous game.

Edit: As an example, imagine finishing a game to absolute completion. 100%+, all secrets found, all side quests completed, all gear unlocked, whatever. Do you have any desire to keep playing it?

are you speaking from experience? do you have enough money where you're asking yourself that?

that's what i like imo. but we all can't have that. always that risk that something could happen tomorrow and it would put anyone in trouble by the end of the month.

going to get my uncle to look for a place. when winter comes and jobs start slowing down. he's going to wish we looked. gotta get it down to 750$ with keeping the dog.

No.
Women will only want you for the money.
Your friends will only be around you, whenever you flaunt your money.
People in general will have a greater incentive to kill you or rob you simply due to the fact that you're wealthy and they're not.

I'd rather sit back and ponder the sad meaning of life than to struggle every day. I remember seeing this documentary about a religious extremist who said that it's good to struggle because it gets him "closer to God" or some ****, how it's bad to be rich because you stop "fighting for God" or jihad.

And I'm like, tha **** are you talking about? Who wants that kind of life? Might as well go back to the hunter-gatherer days if struggling gets you off that much.

Yes.

That's why we never see famous people committing suicide or OD'ing on drugs.

Money typically does not buy happiness itself.
It can, however, be used to afford many things that can support a person's happiness.

What it doesn't do is prevent unhappiness.

It will buy you fleeting happiness and set you up to lose touch with the things that will provide you much longer lasting happiness.

Edit: Before some gives me specific cases of this not being true. Read my sig first please. Im well aware of people out there have the wisdom to use money in a manner that won't compromise the happiness they can get from thimgs not involving money
