I only saw the first episode, so I was disappointed that the art style looked like any modern anime rather than it being disoriented.

Well it's a sequel to a series that actually had a good ending where a sequel wasn't warranted

I've tried with both 1 and 2 and just didn't like them. My involvement was bewildered confusion.

First series felt more coherent than Progressive but I don't understand how the series gained as much notoriety as it did beyond its artstyle/soundtrack.

Maybe I'm missing something, I don't know.

Nope. That's all it was.
The plot didn't really make sense, and the story was all over the place.
It had top tier animation, an unusually good dub, and it expressed a heavy amount of creativity that you would really expect to be contained in one series.

When FLCL originally came out, it basically defined what it meant to be an anime.

The plot makes sense when you realize everything involved are really obvious allegories for puberty and the coming of age

What is FLCL Progressive? Did they make a sequel series? Or did you mean "progressively"?

Did anyone who worked on the original flcl work on the new ones? And as someone said earlier, it was basically a cash in attempt to bait nostalgia for something that didn't need a sequel at all.

It was a basically a case of the right and place and right time when it aired on Toonami in America years ago. It is barely remembered in Japan at all.

This. And also multiple viewings to chisel out what the hell is actually happening.

Yeah I never understood what people saw in FLCL. The technical aspects were great, but everything else sucked.

Didn't it air on Adult Swim?

maybe it's because i was fourteen when i first watched flcl (have seen it a few times here and there since, too, and i think it still holds up), but i just remember it being really pleasant and enjoyable

i don't think there were any other anime like it at the time, either

whether its plot or whatever else was coherent or not wasn't important - it was just enjoyable overall

but progressive just flat-out sucked

like, holy fuck, it just sucked soooo badly

didn't remind me of anything from the original aside from obvious cues

the only thing i liked was that, despite hidomi being super trope-y, ide at least didn't look like the kind of typical male protagonist you'd see in his role

that was kinda cool, i guess

Anime really doesn't make much money for Adult Swim. It basically just gets better ratings for times when most people are asleep, out getting drunk, and or laid.
