There's another unlisted ITT CEuser who has publicly stated his/her place of residence is Seattle/Portland, but idk is it harassment/privacy violation to post it for them? (even though said CEuser has mentioned it a fair number of times)

Surprised someone hasn't suggested Voodoo Donut in Portland yet.

Don't go there. It's just a stupid novelty, not actually that amazing. There's way, way better bakeries in Portland.

This, but then again you can't really say you went to Portland if you don't do the mainstream stuff.

What do you like? Are you there for work or visiting? Would you like touristic places, outdoor activities or just some places to hang out (i.e. bars/food)?

I don't like that mentality, at least with regard to a store that's just known for putting old cereal on donuts or shaping them into giant penises.

Might as well consummate it with one of their cream-filled penis donuts.

Anyway, my advice when anyone comes to Portland is this: avoid Burnside. It reeks of piss. Everywhere.

not super into bars or food, but if there's a one of a kind place in either city i'll check it out. i want to know about things you can only do in those cities. i like hiking, but this isnt a hiking trip, so im not really looking for day hikes or anything. if there are some must-see views around the cities i wouldnt mind a 2 or 3 hour trail.

other than that, i'd check out anything.

Definitely. Coco's chain donuts are not near downtown but they're amazing and the price is amazing for how large they are.

Visit the historic gay district. The roxie has great food and depending on the day the staff will treat you amazing even if you're not a regular. There's also Spartacus, a really famous sex shop around the corner. And then a block from there is Powell's, the book store. Guardian games is on the east side of the river and it's one of if not the largest board game stores in the world. You can also see the waterfront and get begged for money but I wouldn't recommend it.

The exception being if you're so far East on burnside you are miles from downtown and there's actual residential neighborhoods within a block or two.

Ground Kontrol is a bar, but it's a great old school arcade place as well. If you're downtown on the Weekend, you can always walk around the Farmer's Market (great food) and Saturday Market (Here's a map of it - http://www.portlandsaturdaymarket.com/vendors/interactive-map/). And while you're down there, might as well walk around the Japanese Gardens if you want to see some great nature stuff. Speaking of which, over in North East Portland we have The Grotto which only takes about 45 mins or so to walk up to the top of it and it's a nice walk up

Forest Park alone has a lot of trails as well, and that is right near Down Town as well - https://www.pdxmonthly.com/articles/2017/5/15/eight-essential-forest-park-hikes

Try to get there early in the day. It can get pretty busy. Never too bad, but might as well try to beat the rush.

For Seattle, the EMP museum has a section dedicated to Nirvana. You might like that.

Bruce Lee's grave is also on Seattle.

Anyway, list of touristic stuff to do:

*Consider getting the city pass as that contains many of the touristic attractions below if you are interested. That will probably take you 2-3 days to complete.

- Space needle to visit Seattle's iconic landmark. Although it was under renovation so it might be partially closed unless renovation is completed now.
- EMP museum(pop culture museum)
- Chihuly garden (air blown glass museum)
- Ride the duck (A bus ride around the city with a little twist)
- Seattle's underground tour (historic tour to know more about the city buried below Seattle). There's 21age versions where you can drink along the tour
- Argosy cruise (A boat ride with different options)
- Walk along the pier and ride the Seattle Great Ferry wheel (imo overpriced for what it is, but still is a touristic spot)
- Seattle's aquarium (Smallish imo, there's better ones on other places)
- Woodland Zoo (never been there)
- Japanese Garden
- Pike place market (this one is shown whenever a movie is in Seattle as it is also iconic).
- Visit the first Starbucks ever, which is located on the Pike place market. They sell "unique" coffe mugs, which probably can be bought from Amazon by resellers. Protip: if you actually want a coffee, it tastes the same and you might as well go to the next corner to a normal Starbucks with less line. Protip2: You don't need to make a line to enter, just to buy. If you just want a picture you can just enter. Near end of the day this starbucks is still open and the market closed so there's less people at that time.

Less touristic stuff/for second visit:
- Go on a Seaplane flight (Kenmore air)
- Go to golden garden beach and bring your picnic basket to enjoy a day near a rather small (and artificial) beach.
- Lots of parks to visit like Discovery park, Lincoln Park
- Go whale watching (if you visit on the right season)
- Visit a small town on Bainbridge island (reach via a ferry, you can bring your car too on the ferry)
- Go kayaking or paddle boarding on Lake union or Greenlake
- Go to the museum of flight/Boeing factory. There's 2 museums, the one on the north is better.
- Visit some wineries at woodinville
- Go to a chocolate factory tour
- Go to Snoqualmie falls (about 1hr drive)
- Lots of hiking im not going to bother to mention
- Visit the Freemont troll
- Visit the house that "Up" disney movie is based on

Other stuff:
- For bars, drinks and nightlife go to Capitol hill
- Go to Starbucks roastery to try out different types of coffees.
- There are many Food festivals/ festivals during summer weekends so you might want to check them out.
- A must do hike would be mount rainer. But that's probably a 1 day trip and has different levels of difficulty. Not sure if I would recommend for your first visit to Seattle.
- If you are around Dicks burger after spending the night on Capitol hill, it is a good cheap drunk food.

I think that's pretty much it. You can easily see most of Seattle in a single trip, everything else would be more of "life in Seattle to do stuff" instead of tourism.
