As in the idea that abstinence until marriage is the only acceptable option and so all urges are evil temptation and need to be suppressed.

Nothing wrong with abstinence until marriage.

And temptation in itself is not evil/sin.

It's not necessarily wrong, but it shouldn't be promoted as the only option. And the Christians in my environment told me that even my thoughts could be sin.

I'm 32 and had seen some stuff before the internet really took hold... I was probably 8 or 9. My cousin and I found his dads playboy.

My family got dial-up when I was 11 and I never looked back.

I'd say it has had an effect to a degree. Sometimes I'm not able to climax through regular penetration.

I'm turning 32 next month and yeah, similar experience here. When I was a kid and would find random porn mags outside or a parent's "stash" they were more funny than sexual. I also remember PPV porn previews, scrambled channels, watching late night foreign movies on certain channels hoping for nudity/sex scenes.. haha. Crazy looking back at that stuff now.

Then there was porn pics on the Internet (don't remember many free sites back then, so you were stuck with mostly pay site preview pics or 5-10 second clips). Then eventually file sharing services like Kazaa/Limewire/etc. To today where there is basically an unlimited amount of free streaming.

So for me it was a progression, but today it's still difficult for me to get off during sex and I could never go back to jacking off to pics. I can't imagine being say.. 10-13 these days and curious about sex, and just going to the most hardcore shit immediately on streaming sites like an all you can fap buffet. >_>

I think that was me, lol

This is obviously all conjecture, but I think desensitization is only part of why people experience this when it comes to. I would say it's more that, when you have free access to any fantasy you want at any time, you run the risk of having to "settle for the real thing" (even the real thing is, well, real). It's probably like how people can get so involved in the fantasies of escapist video games (especially games such as MMOs), that going back to the real world just isn't something they want as much, even if they need it. But, of course, this is all on a sliding scale. Some seem to be better at keeping expectations separate for fantasy and reality, whereas others are less so. Just like how some people can get addicted (or just caught up in) something more easily than others.

Real porn. As in real images of penetration. I didn't see that until I was 16. A friend in high school had porno mags and VHS porn that was duplicated 50 times.
The real thing was had to come by in the mid/late 90s, especially for a picked on nerd like myself. It wasn't like today. We didn't have the internet then.
