And I think there are a few battles without Zidane as well.

How do you define solo? Like, not use the other characters at ALL, in which case as the above post says, it's impossible. There are also other times like that where your party is split and you don't use Zidane. The part where Dagger tries going back to Alexandria while Zidane goes to Burmecia comes to mind, there are probably more.

Or if you just mean only using Zidane when it's possible to do so.... I can't think of any bosses off the top of my head that would be impossible.

With a quick look through the boss list, the only thing that pops up to me as particularly troublesome is Soulcage, who inflicts Heat, which KO's you as soon as you use a command in battle. Not sure how you'd get around this in a solo-fight, but maybe someone with a better memory than me would know more about it.

Doesn't Soulcage only inflict Heat if you hit it with a fire-element attack first?

In final fantasy x, the rule for most solo runs is if they're not usable, you just solo with somebody else for those sections. Or else use a party modifier cheat and have them in the party at all times.

Thus is really annoying for rikku only nsgnoncns variants since it means you need to plan accordingly. For the lake boss there's usually a caveat to use both in a nsg run since you'll need endless critical hits to avoid the instant death ability for tidus, wakka survives but barely.

Ah, very possible. Been awhile since I've played through it properly. Although this topic is giving me the urge to give it another replay :D

[EDIT] After double checking, apparently it can use Heat on you even without fire attacks, but I completely forgot that Soulcage is undead, so... it should be plenty easy to finish it off with a phoenix down+attack before it can Heat Zidane.

You absolutely can, the difficulty depends on willingness to cheese. You can grind up thievery to 9999 and trivialize the entire game. Of course the strategy will vary depending on how you're looking to do the run exactly.

The damage output isn't the issue, it's the survivability which you basically get around by reloading until you get a favorable attacks. Pretty much all status effects are completely avoidable between abilities and equipment, it's just that he's a little squishy especially if he's the only target. A combination of Auto potion and auto regen mostly take care of you but there are some battles where you just have to reroll a few times

I cant imagine the pain of soloing that game. it's slow af with 4 characters doing damage, just 1 would take a lifetime

No, Zidane can solo everything because IX is piss easy. Thievery has animation long enough that you'll regen most of the health you get dealt back per cast
