This man creates the d-pad and the Gameboy. Nintneod blames the Virtual Boy failure on him since it was his idea, but he never thought it should have been released in its current form. He knew it would be a disaster. Nintendo is fucked up and that's why I buy Sony.

Nintendo is a money trap. The Wii never had a good game library and the whole thing about the New 3ds really turned me off. I dont think Ill ever buy a Nintendo system until it already has a ton of good games (ds/3ds)

Wikipedia has a little bit on it, there was a huge article on retrogamer magazine a while back I remember reading about it's development:

Secret of Mana was originally planned to be a launch title for the SNES-CD add-on.[26][27] After the contract between Nintendo and Sony to produce the add-on failed, and Sony repurposed its work on the SNES-CD into the competing PlayStation console, Square adapted the game for the SNES cartridge format.

The game had to be altered to fit the storage space of a SNES game cartridge, which is much smaller than that of a CD-ROM.[28] The developers initially resisted continuing the project without the CD add-on, believing that too much of the game would have to be cut, but they were overruled by company management. As a result of the hardware change, several features had to be cut from the game, and some completed work needed to be redone.[24][27] One of the most significant changes was the removal of the option to take multiple routes through the game that led to several possible endings, in contrast to the linear journey in the final product.[7] The plot that remained was different than the original conception, and Tanaka has said that the original story had a much darker tone.[24] Ishii has estimated that up to forty percent of the planned game was dropped to meet the space limitations, and critics have suggested that the hardware change led to technical problems when too much happens at once in the game.[24][29]

In 2006, Level magazine claimed that Secret of Mana's rocky development was Square's main inspiration to move their games, such as the Final Fantasy series, from Nintendo consoles to Sony consoles in 1996.[24]

What do you mean? When they fucked up the CD technology thing, they suffered heavily for it and lost basically all of their share of the console market.

What kept them alive wasn't luck, it was the Gameboy.

The Wii was a great success despite being a shit and gimmicky system. I grant their handhelds are great but their console history has been bad since the 64 (which I still enjoyed but it was a joke to PS).

I find it funny how nintendo and other 3rd parties kept developing these "killer apps" that could only be achieved in such upcoming console, only to then say later "lol J/K here is the game in a current console"

For example, zelda OoT was going to be a N64 DD game, killer instinct was going to be a N64 game, and turns out secret of mana was going to be a SNES CD game haha

But then you have perfectly good games delayed so they can be ported to newer hardware, like Twilight Princess for the Wii and Breath of the Wild for the Switch (okay, the latter is forgivable since no-one owned a Wii U)

Not really.

Sony hid a toxic clause in their initial agreement contract where if development of the 'Nintendo Playstation' went through to commercial sales, Sony would gain control over every single Nintendo IP ever made. Forever.

One of the reasons Nintendo broke everything off is because they belatedly found out about said clause and the execs got livid. And that's why they made sure to strictly limit their IP usage when they wrote out the new agreement with Phillips: Only those four infamous CD-i games.

There were more than 4. That deal also went wrong. They signed a contract with Phillips saying they'd license out their games for the system and then refused to actually license them (they likely could not pass internal curation at Nintendo). Phillips had to sue to be allowed to make those games so those games, while legally made, were done so without permission from Nintendo, but only because Nintendo was legally compelled to allow them to be made.

That was basically the last time they ever cooperated with any third party hardware company.

Sony would own what was released on the SNES CD completely. Meaning if they made Mario 64 for it, Sony could sell their own copies of Mario 64 on any other platform and could block Nintendo from reproducing it.

They would not own "Mario" in general, but they'd have total rights to Mario 64.
