The article is pretty long and really technical, so tl;dr: Animal Crossing for the GameCube actually has a full-blown NES emulator built into it, and the generic NES furniture item is actually coded to kick off a process that scans the memory card for specially-packaged NES ROMs and list them for playing. Nintendo never provided a method to load these ROMs onto the memory card (I'm guessing this would have been done over the GCN's internet connection capability or maybe bringing your memory card into a store) so the furniture just always displays the message that there aren't no games to play on it. No. They are talking about the generic NES console that you could buy in the game that had no games at all attached to it. --- "Yes, but since she has no buttcheeks it just looks like a mustache on her lower back" - Eston on Taylor Swift's Hairy B-hole ... Let me guess. When they DO get a VC on the switch, they will start from day 1 with a handful of NES games and slowly build it over time? Like the last 3 systems with a VC.

Are you aware that the game had special items that could be claimed via codes and that some were NES titles? Some NES titles could be obtained via normal gameplay like purchasing from the Nook store and whatever else. I had loads of different ones. The NES emulation does not surprise me at all.

Yes, but when its only a handful of titles, you don't expect their to be a complete emulator for it. Either the game gets remade inside of the containing game, or a specialized emulator that only works on that handful of games. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

I've known about this for a while, but never actually tried it. Well, I did try on Dolphin and the graphics were fucked due to some emulation issue. I'll need to get my GameCube out and try it with my Action Replay (assuming it works that way).

Okay, I see what you are getting at. There are about 20 games listed here: http://animalcrossing.wikia.com/wiki/NES_Games I think I had all of them except for E-reader cards so thats like 15. Thats why I wasnt surprised despite never knowing the detail about a full emulator; it seemed like a good amount of games that would have likely used an internal emulator. --- Currently playing: Strider, Jet Force Gemini, Psychonauts, Final Fantasy III, Red Dead Redemption ...
