Don't be an obvious ass by doing it in front of him. Casually pass by his plate and type the number yourself and text it to your friend.

Safety is important, and letting a friend know where you are is smart, but there's no need to start the date on a bad note.

My wife told me that she let a friend know anything I have told her about me from our online conversations, and car info/description, to try to locate me if something happened to her, but she only told me this a few years later.

my goodness... this is a lot of work. I think I might just cancel the date and go through the drive thru. id rather just eat it at home and not have to fear for my life. i'm sure he'll understand.
