The company I work for had spent years and roughly 20 million or so dollars in compliance efforts, part of which was completely redesigning our entire product line. That resulted in 200 factory employees and 50 office employees losing their jobs, and those of us who remained had our hours cut down to 32 a week for 3 months. Now, we have been informed that due to the increased material costs caused by the trade war, our bonus is gone this year as well as our annual raise. I see this shit all the time for GDPR. These regulations get passed with literally no accounting for the ability of the organization to meet that compliance. It's like they just assume every company with 1000 employees is as profitable as any other company with 1000 employees and that they all have the same level of infrastructure and the level of effort is the same. People literally tell us how they're going to get fired because they have no way to solve a problem they have now because of a bad decision that was made 20 years ago that makes updating the current infrastructure very hard and costly.
