So since each weapon has an individual stat for physical and elemental attack, do I have to make sure I have the spear selected when I go to use a spell since it's my strongest elemental attack weapon, or does it just default to it no matter what "weapon" I have selected?

No, for spells it just automatically "equips" whichever one has the highest E. Atk, and for that reason you only need one weapon with high E. Atk per character.

There are goats in the Flatlands that have healing skills. A 5* I think in the Atlasdam area, and a 6* in the Noblecourt area but I dunno if that one's available right away or only after raising the danger level once or twice.

Jesus Christ I'm a moron. I'm usually good about pressing buttons to see what I can do, but for some reason, the fact that H'aanit's menu automatically opened to the monster menu made my brain think this was the only menu allowed to her.

That solved all my problems. Thanks to everyone else who mentioned healing monsters, but I can just buy/steal items now.

It's still handy for me since my second party using all the advanced classes really doesn't have much in the way of healing (well I'm sure Alfyn's fine but I haven't looked at a list of concoct recipes yet >_>) so having H'aanit summon healing monsters is helpful.

just started the chapter 3's and I'm wondering if I should start switching around these sub classes. everyone's basically maxed out two jobs now. is this one of those scenarios where I should try to make everyone know everything?

There's no reason to change them unless you want to try out different battle combinations. If all you want is another job's passive skills, you can still stay in your current job while you build up JP, and then temporarily switch to the new job, learn the skills, and switch back.

Also trying to get rich so I can buy stuff, I realized pretty quickly that save scumming stealing can break the game so my current plan is probably to just Purchase stuff instead so money will put a limit on how much nonsense I can get up to.

the first chapter 2 I did was h'aanits, which was probably a bad idea because it was the one with the highest suggested level. It was a struggle (a fun struggle) but I beat it and by the time I finished wrapping up the last of the chapter 2's I thought they were way too easy

I'm about where you are, Panthera. I found the subclass shrines, went into a few dungeons, and did a few sidequests. Most sidequests involved performing a path action on someone, so it wasn't a lot of work. My goal is to finish Ophilia's chapter 4 so I can remove her from my party. I mean, I LIKE Ophilia and with subclassing she's always useful, but I'd like a party of whatever 4 I want. I finished her chapter 2 first, and then on the way to do her chapter 3, I did H'aanit's and Alfyn's chapter 2. I'll probably be too underleveled to do her chapter 4 immediately, but I'll do whatever chapter 2s are on the way and grind a little.

Honestly the most important thing to me is that I get all the character talks. I'm using a guide for this obviously, as the timing is too precise. I will obsessively swap out characters while doing a story so that I hear what they all say.

My aimless wandering managed to find the Apothecary subclass and a side dungeon where I fought what I'm going to call Venomoth. I brought a team that could hit every weakness except bow, wind and dark...so naturally Venomoth (okay it's called Monarch) is weak to bow, spear and dark, making for a somewhat more complicated fight than need be as Olberic was the only character I had that could exploit its weakness and it takes ten hits to break it. Luckily I had a bunch of shadow soulstones laying around I could throw at it, had just learned Therion's armor corrosive skill to maximize damage when I did get the break, and had found some fairly strong weapons so I could kind of brute force my way through to get the win. Now I'm at Ophilia's chapter 2 town, but I'm probably going to go visit all the others to get subclasses unlocked and upgrade my equipment before proceeding

I don't think I want to bother with character talk perfectionism personally, I might do that on a future playthrough but for now I'll probably just do stuff as it comes to me and see whatever I happen to see in the process.

Holy crap Grandport is absolutely unreal. I rushed there because I heard it was full of all kinds of amazing gear to steal but was a bit dismayed to find them all at 3%. Knew I wouldn't want to do that much savescumming so I was getting ready to just pick out a couple of things... but then I found the Thieving Tips and Tricks in town and pretty much the entire town shot up to 100% success. O_O

Well, I have 7 jobs available to subclass now, just need to find dancer, which from what I'm looking up is apparently kind of off the beaten path instead of right on the way to chapter 2 towns like all the others? I'm trying to get a couple extra characters leveled up while I wander around to all the new locations, I've been using 4 characters (Ophilia, Cyrus, Therion and Olberic) pretty much exclusively, so now I'm trying to get Primrose and Tressa caught up a bit as well.

No, Dancer is the same as the others. The only thing that's kinda different is that the second Sunlands town isn't anyone's Chapter 2 town, but the shrine is still on the way to it.

I just finished Chapter 1 for everyone and decided to do primrose's chapter 2 first because it's the lowest level. Geez the path to get to that town is king of obtuse, have to go all the way from Haanit's neck of the woods and circle back around.

Well, it turns out that wandering to each chapter 2 town in turn makes you very overleveled for each...I kind of hope the levels scale up as they did for chapter 1s as you complete more, because my main team is already above every chapters level. Kind of hurts the incentive to do any side dungeons when I'm already too strong.

Oh there's another wolf besides just the one in Ophilia's chapter 2? Cool. Hope it puts up a fight, my only problem with the gameplay so far is it hasn't been tough enough, but I'm guessing the format is basically chapter 1 is easy to get you used to the game, chapter 2 introduces bosses with some tricks but nothing too tough, then chapter 3 and 4 is where the tricks start to get serious and the bosses really dish out the damage.

Ahhhh holy shit Olberic chapter 3. Challenge this person? Legit gave me chills, that was one of the cooler things this game has done. Shame I was honestly way more siding with Erhardt than Olberic when all of that went down. =X

Are caits area-specific? I'm nearly done with Chapter 3 with all characters, 30-something hours into the game and I've only seen one and it was way back during someone's chapter 1 before I even knew it was a special enemy. (And that one ran away!)

Yea I encountered 2 back to back in an early chapter 1, and now outside Snowstill while grinding I've encountered a few cultured ones that give more xp I think. There's Cait, Cultured Cait, and Chubby Cait. Caits can be encountered in the lower level areas, and then working your way out you get Cultured and then Chubby I think are the highest.

Onto chapter 3s now, Olberic's and Alfyn's are both level 32, so I did them first. Olberic's was decent enough, enemies put up more of a fight but weren't too special. Alfyns...holy shit that dungeon had some powerhouse enemies in it and the boss was brutal. First fight I died on that didn't consist of me heading into a dungeon I was way too weak for and running into a boss out of my league. Hoping the rest of the chapter 3s continue to bring legit opposition.

Started Primrose's chapter 2, I like how they start off the story with "oh god I'm a dancer in this town men oogle over me every night woe is life but I'll persevere" and then the game decides to one up itself the very next chapter with "bitch I'm a straight up whore in a secret brothel"

welp, took on the final boss.
It was quite a tough one, and it reminded me a lot of NeoExdeath/Kefka finalboss-type designs.
I am glad I took Alfyn and my main elementalists for the first phase (with Olberic as a simple beater), since it was a lot more difficult than the second phase.

Of course having Tressa runelording it up helped immensely against the second phase. As did Haanit and Therions divine skills. Ophilia was there to make sure we were all healed up to max.

Pity we went straight for the dark god though. At least the final boss of Bravely Default let his minion fight first.

Taking the game real slow. Just now getting to Chapter 3. Just playing one or two chapters a day. The pick-up play format with formulaic chapters is actually super nice if you play it this way. Though I can see the complaints of people saying it's too repetetive if you want to binge through it.

Also chose Cyrus as my main and super happy about it. God of clearing trash encounters, and him being overleveled compared to the rest or the characters that I swap in and out is perfectly fine because his Scrutinize skill is super good. Most towns of the chapter 2 towns I rarely come across someone below 80%. Usually priests or kids that have 42% chances. :/

I finished Ophilia's chapter 4 so I could switch her out of my party. I didn't realize the credits would roll and the game would pretend to be over lol. No, game, I want to finish everyone else's story too!

Finished with all chapter 3s, paid a visit to Grandport. Got very lucky with scrutinizing an old lady with a 16% chance on the first try, and all of sudden Therion's steal rates went from middling on a lot of things to 100% on everyone I've checked so far. So that's a pretty amazing buff to my team. Also had my first run in with an advanced subclass boss, the Archmagus and got slaughtered...but that was before my trip to Grandport so I should be able to go back with much better armor to survive the onslaught.

Well after failing on two of the advanced subclass bosses, the third one was easily trivialized with Dancer divine skill + Apocathery Rehabilitation preventing his whole gimmick from working.
